👥🌍 Listening to what users really need
This afternoon, we turn the spotlight on those who use satellite-based services in real operations.
Because when disasters strike, tools must be simple, reliable, and immediately actionable
This session brings forward concrete experiences from users on the ground - sharing what works, what doesn’t, and what still needs to improve.
🎤 Speakers:
🔹 Andre Bennett, Disaster Manager, Government of Sint Eustatius
🔹 Gunther Flanegin, Harbormaster of Bonaire
Their insights are essential to ensure that space solutions are not just innovative - but truly usable in critical moments.

From infrastructure in space to impact on the ground 🌍
In Bonaire, the EU Space Programmes take center stage - showing how Copernicus, Galileo, and GOVSATCOM work together to support disaster risk management in real conditions.
From rapid mapping to precise positioning and secure communications, these services are helping authorities:
🚨 Anticipate risks
📍 Coordinate responses
⚡ Act faster when every second counts
✨ The speakers of this session gave concrete examples:
🔹Coco Antonissen, Director Space Applications of Netherlands Space Agency - NLSA
🔹Marie Menard, Senior Communication Officer at EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme
🚀 From orbit to operations, the EU Space Programme is not just about technology - it’s about protecting communities and strengthening resilience where it matters most.

💡We are back for the last day of the conference the “EU Satellite Systems in the Greater Caribbean: Navigating the Future” conference and a full day of the Satellite-based Services for Disaster Risk Management Workshop!
🛰️ Today, experts, policymakers, and users are coming together to explore the challenges, benefits, and future needs of operational satellite-based services for disaster risk management.
The day kicked off with welcome speeches from John Soliano, Governor of Bonaire , Lianne Mooldijk, Head of Space, of the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat, Coco Antonissen, Director Space Applications of Netherlands Space Agency and Marie Menard, Senior Communication Officer at EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme
🛰️ Now, our President, Dominique Tilmans, is highlighting how workshops co-organised by Eurisy and EUSPA act as a bridge between cutting-edge space innovation and real-world resilience and focus on making space data accessible, actionable, and truly useful on the ground.
🇧🇶 The message is clear – for regions like Bonaire and across the Caribbean, tools such as Copernicus and Galileo are already supporting faster response, better coordination, and stronger preparedness. By connecting space capabilities with local needs, we turn innovation into real resilience for communities.
🚀 Stay tuned as we bring you updates live throughout the day!

🚢🌍 The agenda is out!
How can space technologies strengthen maritime security in an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape?
💡 Here’s what to expect:
🔹 Day 1 - Setting the scene
We kick off with a welcome cocktail and opening remarks, perfect to connect with fellow experts and set the tone for the discussions ahead.
🔹 Day 2 - Deep dive into challenges & solutions
A full day of insights, including:
• High-level keynotes and introductory perspectives
• Focus sessions on maritime security challenges in strategic regions like the Baltic Sea and the Oversea Territories
• Panels on how space infrastructures (satellite data, AIS, surveillance systems) are transforming maritime awareness and response
• Exchanges between institutional players, industry, and end-users
🔹 Day 3 - Building connections
We close with a dedicated social event
🌊 With 90% of global trade transported by sea, ensuring the safety, resilience, and sustainability of maritime operations has never been more important.
This workshop, co-organised by the ESA - European Space Agency and Eurisy, will spotlight how space-based solutions can help monitor activities, detect threats, and support decision-making at sea.
Here are the organisations presenting: ESA - European Space Agency, SatCen, Azores Police Maritime Police, Agência Espacial Portuguesa, EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme, European Maritime Safety Agency, Centre d'Analyse et de Prévision des Risques Internationaux (CAPRI), Baltic Security Foundation, Institut de relations internationales et stratégiques, European Parliament, PROMÉTHÉE Earth Intelligence, Azeituna - Universidade do Minho, EFCA, Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency

The maritime domain faces growing challenges:
🌊 Illegal fishing
🚢 Smuggling and trafficking
🛟 Search and rescue complexity
🌍 Environmental threats
These challenges vary significantly across regions. The Baltic Sea, for example, presents dense traffic and geopolitical sensitivities, while European Overseas Territories face remoteness and vast maritime zones to monitor.
Space technologies, including Earth observation, satellite navigation, and communications, provide critical tools to monitor, detect, and respond to these risks.
