Is this kitten cuter than my painting? Of course not. It’s not supposed to be cute.

This started out as a diptych (2paintings).

I started out with lots of texture and an acrylic underpainting, then added oil stick and oil paint over top.

The texture is amazing and the color is smooth like butter.

There is so much movement in this painting. It’s hard to tell if it is reminiscent of water or rocks.

I’ve included real birchbark in my paintings for the last 10 years as a way to identify with my place of home. Birchbark is symbolic of that sense of home that reaches back generations when my great great great grandfather settled on the Canadian Shield from Ireland. It’s in the blood.
