Day 2 – Done & Dusted!

Friday, 12th June 2026 marked the second day of the Governance and Leadership Training for DPH members, Board members, staff, and allies which facilitated by our Western member, Ms. Kissy from the Daulomani Home, Lautoka

The morning session began with a reflection on the lessons and discussions from Day 1. It was encouraging to see the joy and enthusiasm among our members and allies as many learned for the first time about the meanings and concepts of SRHR, SOGIESC, LGBTIQ+, Q***r identities, and other related terms. Together, we developed new sign language signs for these concepts and recorded action videos that will be used for future editing and awareness purposes.

Following the morning session, we were pleased to welcome a representative from the Fiji Disabled People's Federation (FDPF), Ms. Ulamila, who shared the work, objectives, and services provided by FDPF. Her presentation highlighted the importance of community outreach and support for persons with disabilities, particularly marginalized persons with disabilities who identify as part of the SOGIESC community.

We also had a session with DPH Project Officer, Mr. Isoa Nabainivalu & DPH Communication Officer, Ms. Gael Seru who provided an overview of DPH's Disability Rights Fund (DRF) project. Participants learned about the upcoming 2026 DRF funding opportunities and took part in group discussions to identify the top three priority areas and objectives that could be included in DPH's next DRF application round.

In the afternoon, participants gathered in small circles to reflect on and recap the knowledge and experiences gained over the two-day workshop. Members and representatives shared personal stories, experiences, and challenges in a safe and supportive environment. It was a meaningful opportunity for everyone to listen, learn, and connect with one another.

One more day to go before we conclude our training and celebrate Pride Month together with the cutting of our Pride Month cake! 🌈🎂

Day 1 Done and Dusted! – Thursday, 11 June 2026

DPH successfully completed the first day of our Governance and Leadership Training Workshop for members, allies, and partners.

The first day's training was facilitated by Mr. Alex Mamafainoa, DPH's Member Representative from the Northern Division.

One of the key discussions focused on how DPH can strengthen collaboration and partnerships with Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) and other Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). Participants explored these priorities through group activities and shared discussions on ways to work together more effectively.

We were also pleased to welcome representatives from various OPDs, including the Fiji Disabled People's Federation (FDPF) Youth, PSA, and FAD. A special thank you to Mr. Noa Din, President of FAD, who joined us during the morning session and shared his support, insights, and valuable contributions to the workshop.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to a successful first day.

Two more days to go! We look forward to continuing the learning, networking, and leadership development over the coming days.

SRHR Awareness Workshop for Persons with Disabilities!

The Disability Pride Hub (DPH), led by Ms. Eve, Ms. Mela, and Mr. Krish, in partnership with Health Equity Matters (HEM), represented by Ms. Benjamin and Mr. Isoa, successfully facilitated a Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) awareness session for DPH members, allies, and representatives from the Psychiatric Survivors Association (PSA), Fiji Mobility Alliance (FMA), and Fiji Association of the Deaf (FAD).

Participants actively engaged in the discussions and provided positive feedback on the presentations and health services offered during the workshop. Services included free blood pressure and blood sugar checks, HIV and AIDS testing, and other relevant health screenings.

SRHR is an important topic for the disability community in Fiji, as it helps individuals and families understand their rights, make informed decisions about their health, and learn how to protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections and other health-related risks.

Special thanks to Medical Services Pacific (MSP) and Rainbow Pride Foundation (RPF) for providing valuable information on HIV, AIDS, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as conducting free health checks, testing services, and referral guidance for participants throughout the one-day workshop.

DPH and HEM sincerely appreciate the participation and support of all attendees and partner organizations. Together, we remain committed to promoting accessible SRHR education, health awareness, and inclusive health services for persons with disabilities across Fiji.

Friday, 29 May 2026 – Melanesian Hotel, Nadi

Ms. Benjamin Patel organized a health outreach session in partnership with Medical Services Pacific, providing free HIV and AIDS testing, blood pressure checks, and blood sugar testing for members of the Disability Pride Hub (DPH) and Fiji Association of the Deaf (FAD) from Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, and Tavua.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Health Equity Matters for the funding support that enabled the DPH team to conduct this important activity and deliver training on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

The SRHR training was facilitated by Mr. Krishneer Sen and Ms. Mela Cama, providing participants with valuable information on sexual health, reproductive rights, HIV prevention, and access to health services.

The session promoted health awareness, encouraged regular health screening, and strengthened access to inclusive health information and services for persons with disabilities in Fiji's Western Division.
