Campus Life proudly congratulates Dr. Taralina Gae'e-Atefi on the opening of her clinic in 2026 — a groundbreaking step in advancing mental health services in the Pacific.

We are honored to work closely with Dr. Taralina in providing counseling services for our USP Samoa students, ensuring their well-being is supported with care and expertise.

Beyond this, we celebrate her role as a featured speaker in our Wellness Webinars, where her insights continue to inspire and empower our community.👏 USP is proud of this partnership and looks forward to strengthening our collaboration for the benefit of students, staff and the wider Pacific USP family.

🌏 A historic milestone for in the Pacific!

We are delighted to share the wonderful news that our colleague, Dr. Taralina Gae'e-Atefi has opened the first Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy Clinic in Samoa – the Ahmadhina Health Centre.

This is not only the first Ministry of Health accredited private clinic of its kind in Samoa, but also the first clinic dedicated to Positive Psychotherapy (PPT after Peseschkian, since 1977) in the entire Pacific and Oceania region.

In addition to its work as an independent clinic, Dr. Gae’e-Atefi and her team also provide pro-bono consultations at the psychiatric inpatient wards of the National Hospital of Samoa, contributing to greater access to mental health support in the country.

With Samoa facing su***de rates that have remained above the global average for more than two decades, particularly among young people aged 15–24, this initiative represents an important step forward. Taralina’s work focuses especially on supporting families, parents, children, and young people, with special interests in childhood trauma, addictions, forensic psychology, and personality disorders.

We warmly congratulate Dr. Gae’e-Atefi on this remarkable achievement and thank her for her dedication, courage, and commitment to bringing Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy to new regions of the world.

We wish her, her team, and the Ahmadhina Health Centre every success in the years ahead and look forward to witnessing the continued growth and development of Positive Psychotherapy throughout Samoa, the Pacific, and Oceania. 💙💚

Congratulations, Dr. Gae’e-Atefi, on this inspiring new chapter!

The Impact of the Regional Disability Scholarship on My Educational Journey

The Regional Disability Scholarship (RDS) has played a significant role in supporting my educational journey at the University of the South Pacific (USP). As a student, managing the financial demands of tertiary education can be challenging, but this scholarship has carried that burden and allowed me to focus fully on my studies and personal development.

Through the support provided by the Disability Resource Centre (DRC) at USP, the RDS scholarship has covered my tuition fees, hostel accommodation, medical allowances, book allowance, maintenance support, and other essential living expenses. This assistance has provided me with stability and peace of mind throughout my academic journey.

The scholarship has not only supported me financially but has also encouraged me to remain motivated and committed to achieving my educational goals. Having access to these resources has enabled me to participate fully in university life and complete my studies with confidence and determination.

I am sincerely grateful to the Disability Resource Centre and the Regional Disability Scholarship program for investing in students with disabilities. Their commitment to supporting students with disabilities creates opportunities for them to succeed academically and build a better future. The impact of this scholarship on my life has been truly meaningful, and I hope many more students will continue to benefit from this valuable support.

Autism and Humanity - Every Life has Value

On World Autism Awareness Day (2 April) the Counselling Centre invites our university community to move from awareness to mere acceptance and inclusion. Because every life has value. Every person belongs. Every person is worthy of dignity.

Did you know? Autism is a spectrum of strengths - deep focus, creative thinking, attention to detail and unique perspectives that enrich our classrooms and workplaces.

No more stigma. No more myths.
Just acceptance, inclusion, and celebration of every life.
