The Regional Office is mandated to cover 16 countries throughout the Pacific. United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Regional Pacific Office covers: Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

El NiΓ±o, a climate pattern linked to warmer ocean temperatures and more extreme weather, is expected to emerge between this June and August. It could contribute to another exceptionally hot year, with consequences for billions of people around the world who depend on healthy oceans for their livelihoods, food security and well-being.
People who live with these impacts every day must be part of the decisions that affect their communities and their future. Their experience and knowledge should help shape decisions related to the environment and oceans governance. That is what human rights look like in practice.
