In a heartfelt and stirring address, the Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, spoke with deep respect and pride to the cadets of John Wesley College during their Cadet Pass-Out Parade. His speech was not only a celebration of discipline and achievement but also a call to action for young people, parents, and the broader community.
Commissioner Tudravu began by expressing his immense pride in the cadets, acknowledging the hard work, dedication, and discipline they demonstrated throughout their training. He commended not just the students, but also extended his appreciation to the school management and, most importantly, the parents and guardians who have been unwavering pillars of support for the cadets. He reminded everyone present that the day marked a significant milestoneโone that would not come againโand encouraged the cadets to take pride in their accomplishments.
However, his message extended beyond celebration. With wisdom and urgency, the Commissioner spoke about the real challenges facing todayโs youth, particularly the growing threat of drug abuse. He urged the cadets to make wise decisions and stay mindful of their responsibilitiesโnot only to themselves but also to their families. "Always remember your parents and the sacrifices made for you," he said. โBe proud of today, but use it as a foundation to build a better tomorrow.โ
One of the most powerful moments in his speech was his rallying call to the cadets: โRise up and rebuild your young lives.โ It was a statement of hope and empowerment, urging young people not to be defined by their circumstances but to take control of their futures with determination and integrity.
Commissioner Tudravu also delivered a heartfelt plea to parents and guardians, urging them to never give up on their children. He emphasized that investing in children is among the greatest contributions one can make. โHold their hands until they are ready to stand on their own,โ he advised, reinforcing the need for parental guidance, patience, and unwavering support in these formative years.
Lastly, the Commissioner recognized the collaborative efforts between the Police and Military Forces in making the cadet program a resounding success. He highlighted the importance of unity and shared responsibility in shaping the next generation.
In conclusion, Commissioner Rusiate Tudravuโs address was more than a ceremonial speechโit was a message of pride, a warning, and a beacon of hope. His words served to remind the cadets of their potential, the value of wise decision-making, and the deep responsibility they hold toward their families and community. It was a powerful testament to leadership and a vision for a better, safer, and more disciplined future for Fijiโs youth.
