The sixth Research Pavilion, hosted by the University of the Arts Helsinki, is organised in Helsinki.
Fine arts, concerts, performances, workshops and discussions with an inquiring mindset – see and experience what artistic research is all about. Previously arranged in connection with the Venice Biennale, in 2021 Uniarts Helsinki’s Research Pavilion will gather artist-researchers to Helsinki.

If you are in Helsinki in November, take a ferry to Suomenlinna to listen to folk music improvisation! The members of the Into the deep collective will improvise solo and together during the event on 21 and 22 November. The music will be followed by a panel discussion about the ideas inspired by improvisation and the experience of making improvised music. Audience members are also welcome to join the discussion. The event is part of the sixth Research Pavilion and the research project is funded by Koneen Säätiö - Kone Foundation

What is jazz music and how to keep it alive and evolving? In our Research Pavilion's Puzzled together podcast, Professor Dana Hall talks about the colonial forces that exist in jazz education, and how important it is to teach the broader societal and historical contexts that are associated with music genres. Dana Hall is a drummer, percussionist, composer, bandleader and ethnomusicologist. He is head of jazz studies at Chicago's De Paul university and is also a visiting professor at the Sibelius Academy.

In Puzzled together podcast's first episode, Kenyan composer, sound artist and performer Nyokabi Kariuki gives us insight into her new album exploring language as memory, her relationship to African composers and what decolonising means in her practice as an artist.
