Kuokkalan Kalon nominated for the EU Mies van der Rohe Award 2026.
Built entirely from CLT massive timber, this housing reform project includes 161 apartments and several shared spaces, forming a living community around a sunlit courtyard — where architecture becomes a gesture of care, connection, and belonging.
A quiet act of resistance against loneliness and segregation, celebrating the warmth of wood and the strength of togetherness.

Metsälinna nears completion in Pälkäne.

A villa built from CLT and wood harvested directly from the site.
The roof structure is made from the property’s own pine and spruce, crafted and jointed by a local sawmill.
Facades will be clad in hand-split aspen shingles.

Architecture that fosters connection.
Kuokkalan Kalon gathers 161 homes around a generous shared courtyard, with five CLT buildings designed to encourage encounters between residents.
All access points face the courtyard; there is no underground parking — allowing bigger trees and community spaces to take priority.
Shared stairwells and ground-floor spaces invite everyday interaction, nurturing a sense of belonging through proximity and openness.

Nanunkallio school and daycare center, in Rauma, Finland, provides facilities for approximately 550 children, including grades 1–6, special education, preschool, an afternoon club, a daycare, and a production kitchen. The building is made up of log structures arranged in a village-like layout around a central area that fosters community and creates a calm, comfortable environment. The outdoor areas are designed in sunny locations, offering versatile opportunities for outdoor activities, such as an outdoor auditorium, nature learning area, and accessible entrances. Thank you .lapti and Arkkithetitoimisto Perko for letting us be part of the design team.

On the ground floor of Villa Koppar, a seamless flow between spaces is achieved through smooth transitions, featuring full-height doors without any thresholds. Privacy is preserved by deep walls that house the cupboards.
