When the Prophet (ﷺ) arrived in Madinah, he found that the people had two days in which they engaged in festivities. He asked:

“What are these two days?”

The people replied, “We used to celebrate them during the pre-Islamic period.”

The Prophet (ﷺ) then said:

“Indeed, Allah has replaced them with two better days: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.”
