There was a nice article by Meri Toivanen in today's Helsingin Sanomat (10 June) about immigrants who have learned Finnish very well. Easy Finnish books (selkokirjat) were mentioned too! 😊

English translation:

She watches Yle News in Easy Finnish (Selkouutiset) and then reads the same news stories aloud herself. This helps the muscles of her mouth become accustomed to pronunciation.

She reads an easy Finnish adaptation of a novel. After that, she listens to the original version of the same novel as an audiobook. Even though the vocabulary is difficult, it is possible to follow the book because the plot and characters are already familiar.

Crime novels work particularly well for this. So does 'Ei kertonut katuvansa' by Tommi Kinnunen. Its easy Finnish adaptation is filled with grammar notes written by Davies in pencil.
