Through the Strategic Research and Advisory Service under our Consultancy Business Unit, we collaborated with International Finance Corporation (IFC) to conduct a comprehensive assessment and policy review of Ethiopia’s malt barley sector. The study examined the full value chain, from production systems and input markets to processing, financing, contract farming, and the broader policy environment.

The assessment highlighted Ethiopia’s strong potential in malt barley production, identifying key opportunities to strengthen local sourcing, improve productivity, expand market systems, and enhance collaboration among public and private sector actors. It also provided strategic recommendations to improve sector competitiveness, support smallholder farmers, promote import substitution, and unlock new investment opportunities.

With agriculture as one of our core focus areas, we remain committed to expanding our value chain expertise and delivering practical, data-driven solutions that create meaningful impact across Ethiopia’s agricultural and economic landscape.

A major step forward for Shayashone, and for post-harvest solutions in Ethiopia.

We are proud to announce a significant expansion of our production capacity, extending beyond hermetic grain storage into advanced packaging solutions for coffee and seeds.

With a new facility under construction in Gelan, this investment marks a bold commitment to tackling one of agriculture’s biggest challenges: post-harvest loss.

By expanding our hermetic technology portfolio, we are enabling farmers, exporters, and seed companies to better protect quality, reduce losses, and access higher-value markets both locally and globally.

Last week, Shayashone participated in the 12th National Cooperative Exhibition, Bazaar, and Symposium, organized by the Ethiopian Cooperative Commission and held at the Addis Ababa Exhibition Center.

The event aimed to strengthen market linkages between cooperatives and agribusinesses, connecting government to business, and producers to consumers.

During the exhibition, Shayashone showcased key agribusiness solutions, including Purdue Improved Crop Storage (PICS) Bags, EASI(European African Seed Initiative) vegetable seeds, and poultry vaccines from Zoetis, the world’s leading animal health company, reaffirming our commitment to supporting a more productive and resilient agricultural sector.
