As I prepare to head to francophone Africa, let me say this... once & for all!
Je ne parle pas Français.. & to be clear, I don't WANT to (speak French)!
1. The French language is not of African roots, but as a result of colonization, its African roots are in African oppression
2. Like Francophone countries were colonized by the French, so 'you' speak French, my country was colonized by the British, so I speak English - there is no competition as to who was oppressed 'better' ito language
3. I will make an effort to understand you, if you do the same for me, BUT I will not apologize, nor judge, nor castigate you over our colonial masters' languages - this is not an African 'fight'
4. If you speak Swahili or any truly African language and I don't, that's a different matter - please judge and question me all you want to ... & I WILL apologize, because that's what we should be apologizing for!
It's time we valued our own, took pride in our own, be inspired by our own, aspire to our own, and commit to upholding our own!
Ps. Colonial borders issue: I'm coming for you next 🧐😒

Our ED, Yavi Madurai speaks to her daughter Tanith Madurai a young youth activist fighting for...
~ Gender Equality
~ Education that tells Africa's story from Africa's perspective, and
~ Climate Change.. through her organisation - GenEqual, which she founded under another name at the age of just 8 years old
They discuss the status of youth on the continent, the challenges, opportunities and what leaders of the current generation should be thinking about when leading and leaving a world for the next generation.
Tanith was recently chosen from 750 applications to be one of 100 Volunteers for AfricaYouthHub Volunteer Program, and she also starts her Harvard Undergraduate International Relations Foreign Policy program, coincidently today - on this 'Youth Day'.
In looking forward to starting the program with some of the world's most prolific international leaders, she had this to say,
"In the future there’s going to be the African continent that will run the world from a workforce perspective. I think the main reason why I’m doing this, is when I’m older, to be able to understand and learn how I can position Africa from a foreign policy point of view, understanding that today we are seen as 'less', however by the time I am part of the workforce, technically, the world will be Africanised!" ~ Tanith Madurai
We couldn't have said it better.
Leaders are already here ... waiting their turn to lead and impact.

"With & I are taking up space to DO something about the targets for Africa.
Africa is the world's future.
We are resilient, vibrant, successful & thriving people. We are NOT only about poverty, corruption, & distrust.
Africa has many challenges, but in these we have already found solutions to global problems, & have created things that are benchmarked against the world's best. Our SA wine comes to mind, as well as Rwandan coffee, Kenyan tea, and many, many others.
Every week we will showcase products, services, places & innovations from Africa, & then once a month - we will have an honest inter-generational conversation about 'AfriCAN Made', and how we could possibly meet the SDG's, by 2030.
I'm sure it will be as controversial, direct, & as multi-layered as our 2 very different generations are."

"My mom & I are both conscious leaders IN Africa, FOR Africa, AND the world.
The only way Africa will rise to meet the targets, is if we are conscious & aware - there is always only a focus on the problems. We KNOW the negatives very well. Don't you agree? I'm interested in the solutions.
What if, for a change, we focussed on the things that make Africa great? And how these things can be our strengths and possible solutions? What if there was an initiative, that reflects Africa's innovation & resourcefulness for solutions?
What if we could make a small difference just by looking at possible solutions?
Every week we will showcase 'African Made' things, people, and places.
And, monthly - we will sit together to unpack, from each of our perspectives, what is & what will it take for 'Africa Rising' to become a reality, as we race towards the SDG's with only 9 years to go.
It's probably MY generation that will have to fix things anyway."

🌱Kenyan purple tea
🌱Kenyan black tea
🌱Rwandan tea
🌱Ethiopian Tea
🌱Red Rooibos
🌱Green Rooibos
🌱Honey Bush
🌱North African Mint tea
