Yesterday at the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) Business Forum during Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), Manuel Garcia Calvo, Business Development Director for the Middle East and Asia at Almar Water Solutions, joined industry leaders to discuss one of the key challenges facing water reuse worldwide: how to make circular water infrastructure bankable and scalable.
During the session on financing and scaling water reuse, Manuel highlighted that the main barrier is no longer technology. Proven solutions already exist. The challenge lies in creating the conditions that allow private capital to invest with confidence, including clear demand, long-term offtake commitments, and balanced risk allocation between public and private stakeholders.
As demand for resilient water supplies continues to grow, water reuse must be treated as strategic infrastructure rather than a niche solution. Unlocking investment will be essential to accelerating adoption and building more secure and sustainable water systems worldwide.
Thank you to International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA), Singapore Water Association (SWA) and Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) for bringing together global leaders to advance the conversation on the future of water.

Oceans are at the heart of the global water cycle and a growing source of freshwater.
Covering more than 70% of the Earth’s surface, oceans regulate climate, sustain biodiversity and produce over half of the world’s oxygen.
Today, oceans are also an essential water resource, supporting cities and industries through desalination, seawater transport systems, and coastal water intake infrastructure.
From supplying drinking water to enabling industrial operations, these solutions are becoming critical to ensuring water security.
At the same time, protecting marine ecosystems is essential. Pollution, climate change and unsustainable practices continue to put increasing pressure on our oceans.
This is why water management and ocean protection must go hand in hand — developing infrastructure that is not only efficient and reliable, but also environmentally responsible.
At Almar, we are committed to delivering solutions that secure water supply while preserving the ecosystems that make it possible.
This World Oceans Day, water solutions are ocean solutions.

For years, reuse was constrained by regulation, perception and institutional barriers. Today, that is changing rapidly.
Across the world, we are seeing strong growth in:
🌱 Agricultural reuse
🏭 Industrial applications
💧 Aquifer recharge
In 2025, global installed water reuse capacity exceeds 213 million m³ per day, reflecting the scale and momentum of this solution.
This marks a fundamental shift: the water sector is no longer only about managing scarcity, but about creating new water resources.
At Almar, we see reuse as a key pillar of integrated water infrastructure, working alongside desalination and transport to deliver long-term water security.
