Our handmade yurts form part of a family run farm, 3km from Tarifa, Costa de la Luz, Andalucia, Spain - the wind and kite surfing Mecca of Europe. We offer three beautifully furnished yurts (handcrafted by us) with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. The 5 hectare farm overlooks the Straight of Gibraltar and Morocco and is home to a host of friendly animals, an organic veggie garden and our young family. We like our guests to feel at home, enjoy the freshly laid eggs and help themselves to homegrown fruit from the trees. It´s the perfect base from which to experience our sustainable lifestyle, as well as for walking, bike riding, birdwatching and all the attractions of nearby Tarifa (wind and kite surfing, rock climbing, nightlife, whale watching, horse riding, etc.), only a 10 min. The yurts are the perfect way to enjoy the proximity of nature with all the creature comforts of a hostel. With cool tiled floors, a hobbit like wooden door opening onto natural park and all the ambience of a round nomadic dwelling, the yurts are more luxury than camping! Each yurt sleeps up to 4 people with one double bed and two singles, and plenty of room to move around! They have roll up windows to increase air flow, and show off the view, and are double insulated and attractively lined to maintain an agreeable temperature, whatever the weather. Each yurt opens onto lovely gardens and has its own picnic table. The recycled and sustainable timber framed bathrooms and kitchen facilities, within the yurt gardens, are decorated with the same homely style. We are proud to say that all installations, including our water system, are powered by solar and wind generated electricity, bringing us one step closer to self sufficiency. Wherever possible we have tried to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum without sacrificing quality or comfort. Every guest automatically contributes to our association (deducted from the reservation fee) which is dedicated to improving the relationship between visitors and nature. We are constantly investing in bettering our surroundings to attract and protect wildlife and help you appreciate our unique surroundings.

Loving the early morning back to school routine! September sunrises and campesino (country people) life on our track is a great start to the day.
Who knew there were horse biscuits?!
Gareth and his family came prepared.
As if these two didn't get enough treats already, they have now discovered horse treats!
They may turn their noses up at carrots from now on...
After all these years we love feeling the power of processions.
The excellent town band, the magnitude of the effigy being carried for hours down the narrow, crowded streets. The strong sense of community between all ages and backgrounds.
Although we are foreigners, and do not subscribe to the religion or understand all the traditions, we feel a warm belonging. We are greeted by so many familiar faces, hidden away all summer in work and a sea of tourists!
It is a joy to see that, despite the world around us changing so fast, some things remain.

What a honeymoon! My toes are broken from all the walking but It's breathtakingly beautiful and more than we hoped for.
Wild nature, romantic history, pretty good weather and homemade cakes in random place!!
It was a good day for storks!
This huge flock was revelling in the currents above Los Lances beach while the humans skimmed across the water below on their wing foils.
It was traditionally the busiest day of the year here in Tarifa (August Bank holiday) but there was plenty of space to enjoy the beach.
Now it feels like we are heading down the other side of the summer peak.... Roll on autumn!
We missed the memo about special glasses ...
Good company, a few steps from home and calm patience was all we needed to absorb the phenomena, ponder the wonders of nature and eventually observe with the naked eye the moon pushing the sun down behind the mountain.
We were fortunate to meet our neighbours atop our hill and share their desire to avoid the crowds (and their sensible pre-ordered glasses) but the soldering helmet did lend a spacey vibe to the whole experience....!
We'll be sure to be more prepared for next year's
Fancy dining with Pedro the donkey for company? Al fresco dining at Yurts Tarifa is a bit like being on safari!
Migrating birds flying overhead, geckos awaiting passing bugs on the terrace, an occasional visit from a praying mantis (pictured), butterflies and moths flitting through the shrubs and the frogs singing in the pond just beyond the paddock. You couldnt be more immersed in nature in the middle of the heat of summer.
Misty the dog will often come along to hoover up crumbs (but really suffers if you give her human food), and the donkey and the horse come to drink in the evenings and are always grateful for a stroke and a slice of watermelon ;)
Safari without having to move from your shaded spot on the terrace!

Now we know who's keeping the mice away!
With all the doors open in summer and a completely useless cat, this snake is a good neighbour to have.

Eat the rainbow....
Purple Basil!
Pickling gherkins
Seaweed mulched tomatoes, keeping the ground moist, cool and adding nutrients
Mexican sunflowers for biomass and beauty!
Climbing beans - keeping them short for wind protection.
1st Edamame beans - trying different varieties from seeds I bought online. Such little choice to buy locally, I am excited to have some more variety
Melons - self seeded!! Goes to show I should have sown mine way ealrier, they are nearly ready to eat while the ones I planted are just flowering
The very last pumpkin from last years' crop. They also self seeded - hopefully this years will be as prodective and long lasting.
Nothing goes to waste here....
A daily treat for the chickens is your kitchen scraps! Plenty of it gets kicked to the wayside but they love a prawn husk, some bread and anything green and crunchy.
