Every work begins long before it reaches the wall.
In drawings, fragments, and gestures, an artist traces a path of thought—where curiosity becomes form and ideas slowly unfold into matter.
For Alto-Relievo, Danny Rolph invites painting into a sculptural space. Layers of collaged materials emerge from the surface, projecting outward and blurring the boundaries between image and object.
📆 OPENING DATE:
👉 Friday, 19 June at 7:30pm
📍 Location: Kaplan Gallery, Mateu Obrador 8, Palma

Marcos Vidal’s objects immediately resist traditional classification through language. Do they reveal an objective reality, are they objectively true, or are they plastic carriers of an objective perception?
Vidal breaks with conventional ways of seeing and questions the functions and norms that society assigns to objects. These definitions are not absolute truths, but cultural constructs that remain valid only until new ideas transform them.
Through his works, the artist draws on the viewer’s familiarity with the object only to destabilize and reconsider it. In doing so, he renews the tradition of object art that emerged in the late 1950s.
At that time, the prevailing idea was that object, reality, and truth coincided. The ready-made came under the artist’s control, who no longer focused on form, but rather on the context in which the object was presente

Juan Carlos Batista’s works explore the traces—both symbolic and material—that armed conflicts and colonisation leave on cultures and territories.
Drawing on small and medium-sized artisanal carvings from Africa and elsewhere, the artist constructs a critical dialogue that reveals the tensions of cultural appropriation and the contradictions of the Western legacy.
Many of these wooden figures were originally ritual objects, conceived for worship and spiritual mediation within their communities. With colonisation, however, they were stripped of their symbolic power and transformed into aesthetic objects, incorporated into museum collections or the art market.
Batista’s decisive gesture consists of deconstructing each carving into a multitude of fragments and reassembling them into a new sculpture. Through this process of dismantling and reconfiguration, the fragments regain their voice and meaning, becoming works of contemporary art that invite reflection on memory, power and cultural transformation.
Integrated within Up86 House — a project by — the work enters into dialogue with a space conceived as a contemporary refuge, where architecture, landscape and materiality coexist in quiet balance.

There is still time to visit DIY – Do It Yourself, Marcos Vidal's current exhibition at Kaplan Gallery.
Saws, cables, plugs, pipes and wooden blocks are removed from their everyday purpose and transformed into poetic sculptural interventions that question value, consumption and the structures that shape contemporary life.
An invitation to see the familiar through a different lens.

Yōki is an artistic project that Marta Font Genovart has been carrying out for 4 years, the name, wich has a Japanese origin, refers to the idea of “container”. This book is a culmination of this process, where the Mallorcan artist portrays it with family archive images, photographs that document the actions and a reflective text that accompanies the pages.
It is more than a book, it is a small piece of art in itself, each cover is drawn with holes (small containers of the thread that sews the pages) by the artist, it also contains a part of one of the artist’s paintings that she has cut into 200 pieces to insert one into each book.
The book is available in the gallery

________
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday for the opening of Marcos Vidal’s ‘DIY (Do it yourself)’.
Through a practice rooted in the everyday, Marcos invites us to take a fresh look at what usually goes unnoticed: common objects, gestures and materials which, when reinterpreted, take on new possibilities and meanings.
His work invites us to reflect on transformation, appropriation and the ability to construct new narratives from what already exists.
Thank you to the artist, friends, collectors and visitors who shared the evening with us and who, through their presence and perspective, ensured the exhibition continued to expand beyond the artworks themselves.
The exhibition will be open by appointment until 24 July.
