My visit to SF | UK contract manufacturer in February 2025.

Before this, I’d visited a number of manufacturing facilities. Some were good, some were impressive on the surface, but none quite aligned with the standard I had in mind for Prerun.

From the beginning, I knew this wasn’t going to be a quick-win product. I wasn’t looking to launch as fast as possible or take shortcuts to get something out into the world. I wanted to create something runners could genuinely trust, and I was prepared to be patient while I found the right partner to help make that happen.

This visit felt different.

What followed from this meeting would eventually become Prerun. The product now being ordered every day by runners across the country started right here.
Behind every pouch is a huge amount of work that most people never see. The sourcing of ingredients, the manufacturing processes, the quality controls, the testing, the compliance requirements. Getting those things right mattered just as much as creating a product that worked.

For me, there was never any compromise.

High-quality ingredients. Exceptional manufacturing standards. Complete confidence in what’s inside every serving.

Anything less wasn’t an option.

There are many many benefits to coffee. It is tremendously well researched, and I am a huge advocate.

That being said, it does fall very short when being used as a tool for running. Yes, it contains caffeine which delay the first signs of fatigue - but above and beyond that, it’s not the most helpful.

Which is why, I use coffee as a vice, as a hobby, for moments of joy, and daily … but I do not use it as a tool for running.

I’d love to hear from you, if you do use it for running. Or, if you have anything cool you would like to share on the topic of coffee.

Flavour and taste is one the biggest decisions I made during manufacturing. Particularly, how to sweeten Prerun and how important natural sweeteners are.

For clarity, Prerun is sweetened using Stevia, which is a natural sweetener. It is higher quality, and has a completely different profile to Sucralose. Stevia is made from the leaves of a plant originally from South America.

It tastes very sweet, but contains virtually no calories and doesn’t raise blood sugar like normal sugar does.

Prerun is a business, too. A truly enjoyable one.

If it doesn’t exist; you can either go without, or you can build it. Prerun is an example of the latter.

When building a business, there is a simple order of events. You cannot decide to build a business, and then think of a product or a service. The lack of passion for the product/service sets the tone for the entire future of the business.

You must establish the need for something, or recognise a problem that ought to be fixed, and then use your passion to solve it. If you build a business on top of that, the odds for success are significantly better.

More importantly though, the odds for personal fulfilment are heightened … and that’s why I do this.
