AUGUST SEES THE 2ND RUNWAY OPEN AT MALAGA AIRPORT ………………
This August has seen such a high influx of visitors to southern Spain, that Malaga airport has had to open the second runway. This allows for double the amount of flights, meaning up to 72 per hour, which translates to 9,500 passengers! Long may the visitors continue to grace our shores.

COSTA DEL SOL NAMED ONE OF THE BEST VALUE FOR MONEY HOLIDAY VENUES IN EUROPE ………. We all know that the sun is a major attraction to the Costa del Sol, along with the sea and sand, but it seems that recent surveys show that Spain is top of the list for value for money throughout the developed European countries.

Not only that, house prices in Spain are much lower than its' competitors - France and Italy. A recent study has shown prices up to 50% cheaper, paying an average of 1,459 euros per m2. This is good news all round, and is reflected in the continued rise in sales this year, not to mention the rentals, which this summer have been busier than ever.

San Pedro de Alcantara has had a facelift, new sand has been imported at great cost, and the famous chiringuitos have invested money in new sunbeds and umbrellas.

Still full of local charm, today saw special delivery of local
artesan pastries being sold on the beach, the old-fashioned way!

BIGGEST STREET PARTY IN THE WORLD - MALAGA..........
August 16th to the 23rd sees hundreds of thousands of visitors from all walks of life enjoying the amazing street fair with flamenco and sherry on offer at every turn.
The fair serves as a commemoration of the re-conquering of the city by Isabella and Ferdinand in 1487 when they took back the city from the Muslims who had ruled Malaga for over 8 centuries! The event was to be dedicated to the new patron saint, the Virgen de la Victoria.

The night time celebrations take place in the Cortijo de Torres neighbourhood, and the daytime celebrations take place all round the city, but particularly in the historic area.

This truly is an experience not to be missed.

STARLITE FESTIVAL IN THE HILLS OF MARBELLA.........

The Nagueles quarry makes for a superb venue for International stars. The craggy rock face offers a romantic and amazingly effective acoustic backdrop. Opening the event this year were the Beach Boys, well, at least 2 of the original members. The stage was like a Calfornia Beach scene with tropical plants and surfboards scattered amongst the musicians. Last week saw the sensuous Ricky Martin, the spectacular light and projection show offered by the Pet Shop Boys, is to be followed in a week by the infamous Sir Tom Jones, and not forgetting, the wonderful and talented Spanish artist, namely Mr. Julio Iglesias. This incredible array and variety of stars keeps the ecclectic mix of residents and International visitors entertained during the summer months.

Starlite also has exhibits throughout the summer and free shows such as the very talented Georgian Band Koko T and the Blues Mob, so catering to the Russian and Eastern European locals and visitors.

Well, the weekend before last saw the 8th Arte Sano festival on the promenade in San Pedro de Alcantara. Anyone who was lucky enough to go would have been one of thousands to enjoy the fabulous delights on offer, including mouthwatering natural foods, international musicians and dancers, offering entertainment all day Saturday and Sunday, late into the night. The stages set up with the backdrop of the sea, sand and palm trees.

The Costa del Sol has been reported as making up 52% of the total visits to Andalucia last year. Apart from the weather which has always been a big pull to this area, there are at least 60 towns on the Andulcian coast, which is where most people want to be, close to the beaches and chiringuitos. Millions of euros are spent each year on the beaches, in order to keep up the standards that are expected of the several beach resorts scattered along the coastline.
