Inferstudio
Inferstudio is a story-telling and research practice that reveals and crafts narratives of human societies through art, architecture, and anthropology.
We work within the experience and implications of rapidly shifting cultures, technologies, and socio-economics; immersing ourselves in current or potential realities. We aim to propose and provoke, investigating problems and opportunities on our shared technological, cultural and environmental horizons.

Matsya is the third of three films we are presenting next week in Nice with Radical Ocean Futures and .
In this allegorical short, an ark ship roams the high seas, visiting threatened ecosystems and coastal communities, acting as a vault for those species, practices, and languages that are existentially threatened by the climate crisis.

Through three new short films, we’ve worked with Radical Ocean Futures and to ask how science/speculative fiction could shape the future of earth’s oceans beyond policy reports. These provocations premiere next week in Nice (link in bio).
In MANA, we explore the vital role of ‘large ocean states’ in marine governance across the Pacific. This film imagines how future attitudes toward marine protection, harvest and logistics might be radically adjusted by higher fidelity sensing and tracking of our oceans in combination with a return to far older cultural traditions of ocean stewardship.

We are excited to premiere three new short films at a workshop for the UN Oceans Conference in Nice next week. These films were developed with Radical Ocean Futures and and they tell speculative stories of governance, resource extraction + activism, and the preservation of threatened existences.
In Havsrå, we explore the looming shadows of deep sea rare-earth mining, and the ways in which civil society resistance to extractive ocean industries might reverberate through culture.

Over the last 2 years, we have been hard at work building the worlds and animations for Daughter of the Inner Stars () - an original live orchestral film concert, premiering today at the . The piece draws on traditional Ukrainian folklore and is a soaring performance of myth, magic and music as we follow a young woman on her journey to rekindle a lost connection with the ancient spirits of her winter planet to rescue her missing father.
We are so grateful to have been led on this incredible journey by the visionary minds of our writer/director, our producer and - the composer/conductor and producer. They have together created an inspiring and supportive team that is the stuff of dreams.
Crafting the landscapes, architectures, characters and objects that compose the world of the inner stars has been a design process rich with experimentation and learning, and we are so thrilled to be able to share our work with the bright young minds of the children and educators who will see it for the first time today.
At Inferstudio we have been so fortunate to be joined for this project by .holmen who created the incredibly detailed and original character sculpts, and .hh who brought all the motion capture to life with his beautiful animation artistry and technical direction. We absolutely could not have done it without you both!
We are so grateful to the musicians of who will perform today’s concert and who will be the show’s narrator.

An essay on current scientific efforts to decode Whale communications…and how this has sparked (or perhaps rekindled) a cetacean obsession for me.
Understanding Whale You may already know that I’m reasonably obsessed with whales. You may know this if you’ve spent more than thirty minutes with me in a semi-social setting. I would have found a way to bring it up. I am adept at shaping a conversation so that it quite naturally weaves its ways towards alternative...
