Dive Deep Into The Songs That Define Heavy Metal

"Music and politics don't mix"?
If that's what you think, you should probably stay away from the Chug.
Every week I do a deep dive into one genre-defining metal song.
A few weeks ago, I covered "Seasons in the Abyss".
Here's a short taste of what I covered in that issue.

Are metal fans “untalented” and “uncivilized”??!
According to William E. Grim, author of "the most hated article in metal history", yes, we are.
He wrote that the fans who showed up to mourn Dimebag at his funeral were:
“[...] an assemblage of ignorant, semi-human barbarians who were filthy in attire and manner, intellectually incoherent and above all else, hideously ugly to the point of physical deformity”.
Safe to say we won't be inviting Grim to any parties 'round here anytime soon.
But Grim's article united the metal community during a time of profound mourning...
And help spawn one of the most iconic metal songs of the past 20 years.

"Until the handcuff snapped around my wrists, I still thought I might be dreaming. Ratchet-arm teeth clicking into a receiving pawl make a very distinct sound. Like a pump-action 12-gauge being racked outside your back door, or a tree limb cracking beneath your weight, it is a sound that swiftly wakes you up to the reality of your situation. It is a sound that says:
You're screwed."
That's the opening paragraph of Randy Blythe's Dark Days - a book I've had on my reading list for years.
The prose is visceral. And his experience unique.
Have you read this book? And are you also rocking Lamb of God's new album, Into Oblivion?

Every week I ask new readers the same question:
"What's the one metal song that means the most to you?"
Here are some reader recommendations I’ve been banging my head to this week:
-Dream Theater’s “A Change of Seasons”
-Lorna Shore's “Pain Remains 1: Dancing Like Flames”
-Slayer’s “Seasons of the Abyss”
-Judas Priest’s “Epitaph”
-Metallica’s “The Shortest Straw”
One of these songs will be featured in an upcoming issue.
Which one do you think it’ll be? Let me know below.
