Proud to have participated in the recent Egypt ConTech Meetup organized by STEM Entrepreneurship Center in collaboration with The American University in Cairo. As Habitat for Humanity Europe & Middle East and Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter Financial Inclusion Manager, I had the opportunity to speak and moderate a panel discussion on "Exploring the Future of Construction Technology: Opportunities and Challenges for Innovation and Entrepreneurship".

The Egypt ConTech Meetup brought together a diverse group of industry professionals, entrepreneurs, investors, and stakeholders. It provided a fantastic platform for attendees to foster collaboration and innovation within the rapidly evolving construction technology (ConTech) sector in Egypt.

During the insightful panel discussion, the group of seasoned panelists delved into the current state of the ConTech landscape in Egypt. We examined the unique challenges and market barriers facing the industry, while also highlighting the exciting opportunities for innovation and technology to tackle systemic issues from a sectoral lens, but wearing our entrepreneurial hats!

As part of the dialogue, I had the privilege of sharing insights from our work at Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) and its Terwilliger Center for Innovation Shelter Sheltertech approach to ensure Contech does not forget the importance of looking at low and middle-income housing needs. The immense potential for cross-sector partnerships - involving investors, startups, corporations, and civil society organizations - to drive transformative, human-centric solutions was a highlight of our conversation!
The cross-sectoral, public, and private sector collaborations, hold the key to aligning interests and efforts in socio-economic and livelihood development, climate change response, and poverty reduction. By integrating innovative financing and cutting-edge construction technologies, the industry can work towards improved climate resilience, while also generating reasonable returns for all stakeholders.

The discussions at the Egypt ConTech Meetup also underscored the critical role that the construction industry plays in global carbon emissions. Together we also explored how innovations and green financing can be leveraged to support more sustainable, climate-conscious construction practices - a vital step in shaping a more resilient and equitable built environment for the future.
My colleagues at Habitat For Humanity Egypt were also present to inform the meetup attendees of our work in the realm of affordable housing in Egypt since 1989!
It was a privilege to contribute to this important dialogue and I'm grateful for the opportunity to connect with the dynamic ConTech community in Egypt. Looking forward to further collaboration and innovation in this space.

I am very happy to join Bayt Alkhyata - بيت الخياطة for the launch of their seventh branch in Menya. Bayt Alkhyata - بيت الخياطة is a company established by a group of young entrepreneurs all under 33 and with over 98% of female employees. Their mission is to combine technical, vocational and business capacity building for girls and women to start their business in the ready-made garments and textiles sectors and prepare others to join as qualified seamstresses the enterprises.
The program started in Menofeya and is now present in 7 branches including Cairo and Tanta.
Thousands of girls and women have now graduated and have started their own fashion businesses.

I am amazed by the talents and the spirit of Egyptian girls and women from Aswan and Upper Egypt.
I am thrilled to be part of the launch of the bootcamp of The Creatives from the South implemed by Gemini Africa and funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, aims to provide local female creatives with the tools, support and mentorship to overcome social barriers to initiate enterprises and Initiatives within the creative industries like performing arts, content creation, movie making and other forms of artistic self expression!

Another great project I am very proud to be working on this year! Bayt El Kheyata is an Egyptian youth-led social enterprise working on helping girls and women start and grow their own business in the fields of fashion design, ready-made garments and textile. Women are equipped with vocational training, business training, industry linkages and even employment opportunities for those who prefer to join the working force on those fields.
I am very proud to work with my ambitious colleagues from Bayt El Kheyata as they are leading this new expansion of the project to Menya, offering a new group in Upper Egypt to benefit from this opportunity.
