The Lithuanian-French-Estonian co-production "Vesna" has been officially selected for the 79th Festival de Cannes, where it will premiere in the Special Screenings section!
We at FrostFilms are proud to have created the visual effects for this powerful film.
Directed by Rostislav Kirpichenko in his feature debut, "Vesna" is set in occupied Ukraine and follows a young priest who risks his life to ensure the dead receive a dignified farewell. It's a deeply human story about preserving dignity and humanity in the midst of war.
The Estonian side of the production is led by Vitali Sheremetiev (ESSE House Production), with original music by Estonian composer Sten Sheripov. The film is a co-production between Film Jam (Lithuania), Matka Films (France), and Esse House (Estonia).
The 79th Cannes Film Festival runs May 12–23. "Vesna" will arrive in Estonian cinemas in late 2026.

𝐄𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢 𝐤𝐚𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦 „𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐧𝐚“ 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬’𝐢 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐥𝐞
Leedu, Prantsusmaa ja Eesti kaastootmises valminud mängufilm „𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐧𝐚“ valiti Festival de Cannes’i filmifestivali ametlikku programmi ning linastub erilinastuste (Special Screenings) sektsioonis.
Filmi režissöör ja stsenarist on 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐯 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐤𝐨. Rostislav on sündinud Leedus, kuid kolis lapsena Ukrainasse ning sealt edasi Prantsusmaale. „Vesna“ on tema esimene mängufilm. Film käsitleb sõjaolukorras inimlikkuse ja väärikuse säilitamise teemat. Filmi tegevus toimub okupeeritud Ukrainas, kus noor preester riskib oma eluga, et tagada hukkunutele väärikas ärasaatmine.
Režissööri sõnul on filmi peamine eesmärk tuua nähtavale kogemused, millest visuaalne tunnistus sageli puudub: „Meil ei ole nendest paikadest ja sündmustest pilte, seega pidime looma kujutised millestki, mida ei ole võimalik näha, kuid need lood põhinevad inimeste tegelikel kogemustel.“
Filmi Eesti-poolne produtsent on 𝐕𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐯 tootmisfirmast 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞.
Filmi stsenarist ja režissöör on Rostislav Kirpichenko, operaator Vilius Mačiulskis, kunstnik Iris Morlat, helilooja Sten Sheripov, helirežissöör Marius Blažys, monteerija Marie Vettese.
Filmi peaosades on Kęstutis Cicėnas, Valentin Novopolskij, Anastasiia Pustovit, Bartas Ždanovičius, Martynas Kukta, Šarūnas Datenis, Daumantas Ciunis, Viačeslav Lukjanov ja Jevgenija Gladij.
„Vesna“ osales 2025. aastal PÖFFi ajal toimunud IndustryTallinn & Baltic Eventi kaastootmisturul.
Filmi tootmist toetasid Leedu filmikeskus (Lithuanian Film Centre), Eesti Filmi Instituut, Centre National du Cinéma (Film France-CNC), Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine ja Leedu rahvusringhääling.
„Vesna“ jõuab Eesti kinodesse 2026. aasta lõpus.
79. Cannes’i filmifestival toimub 12.–23. maini.

We’re happy to share our VFX breakdown for the Latvian film Escape Net. Whether you’ve seen the film or are just curious about how the visuals were made, we hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look.
This project was all about what we do best - CG crowds, non-existing rooms, animated vehicles, planes, and a whole range of challenging CGI shots. A lot of invisible work, tiny details, and creative problem-solving went into helping tell this incredible story.
Huge shoutout to our amazing team who built this frame by frame.
A massive thank you to Kultfilma, and especially director Dzintars Dreibergs and producers Marta Romanova-Jēkabsone, Arta Ģiga and Inga Pranevska, for trusting us with their film. It means everything.
Escape Net has reached over 137K cinema viewers to date - and is still going!

🛸 Strange love and sci-fi creatures — the mothership of “The Black Hole” has landed!
FrostFilms has pushed its boundaries once again by uniting existentially longing middle-aged women and aliens through cosmic liquid, and transforming a grotesque giant spider into an unexpectedly adorable, human-like creature. 👽
"The Black Hole” is a steamy, feminist absurd comedy where residents in an apartment block district long for a better life. When a black hole mysteriously appears in a lilac bush, they will have to face aliens, a giant spider, and an Austrian in breeches.
Take a trip to this chaotic cosmos through the lens of our VFX breakdown!
