When people look at today's growth in the defense sector, it's easy to focus on what's happening right now.

Less visible are the years of development, testing, customer feedback, and persistence that come before it.

We asked KrattWorks CEO Tõnis Voitka to share his perspective on this.

Hear his thoughts below. ⬇️

Countering drones starts with realistic targets.

At Rutja Airfield, the Estonian Defence Forces recently showcased drone defence capabilities developed together with Estonia’s defence industry. KrattWorks demonstrated target drones and swarm simulation systems that help defence forces train and test their ability to detect, track, and counter aerial threats.

From autonomous drone swarms to our Dart fixed-wing platform, realistic training plays a key role in building effective air defence capabilities.

As drone technology evolves, so must the systems used to prepare for it.

Drone capabilities are becoming increasingly important across Europe, but so is the need for systems that can actually be tested, validated, and used in realistic training environments.

At the beginning of last year, only 2–3 countries were using KrattWorks’ target drone systems. Today that number has grown to 12 countries, with more currently joining.

In the latest Äripäev podcast episode, Head of Sales and former military professional Karmo Saar talks about scaling drone manufacturing, rapid growth, frontline robotisation, mobile factories, and the long-term potential of the company’s reconnaissance drone currently under development.

The discussion also touches on the recent drone incident in Estonia and how quickly the security and defense landscape around Europe is changing.

DART in action during Digital Shield 2026 in Estonia.

Used during a live counter-drone capability demonstration, DART supported allied readiness and testing of counter-UAS systems on NATO’s eastern flank.

Realistic target systems are an important part of developing and testing effective counter-UAS capabilities in operational environments, from training scenarios to live system evaluation.

Coordinating multiple drones with a single operator.

This demo shows how KrattWorks systems work together in practice, from ISR target identification to coordinated strike ex*****on.

The operator identifies and assigns the target, missions are generated and shared across strike drones, and on command the swarm engages. After the strike, ISR verifies the result and completes the loop.

A clear example of how coordinated unmanned systems operate.
