Come join our team of Engineers as a Design Engineer for Ship Conversions at SRC Estonia.

This role is about turning technical requirements into practical, workable design solutions, reading and understanding technical drawings and documentation, and working closely with project managers, engineers, sales teams and customers or independently to identify issues and contribute to effective solutions.

We're looking for someone with a background in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field, and a genuine interest in shipbuilding and ship conversion. You should have good technical understanding, communication and time management skills, and be comfortable with, or keen to learn, CAD tools like AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Navisworks, SolidWorks, Faro SCENE, or ShipConstructor.

More space for methanol and ethanol fuel, while maintaining an equivalent level of safety.

This week at IMO headquarters in London, SRC’s Alex Vainokivi and Ian Nash from SPS Technology presented sandwich structures as an alternative to conventional cofferdams around methanol and ethanol fuel tanks.

Hosted by the Estonian delegation during CCC 12, the presentation explored how Methanol Superstorage uses SPS technology to increase usable tank volume. We shared test results and marine service experience supporting the technical case for equivalent safety.

For shipowners, the opportunity is significant: more fuel capacity within the same space, making alternative-fuel conversions and newbuild designs more practical.

Where machinery space is limited, SRC's heat pump can be supplied as individual modular components, sized and arranged to integrate into constrained spaces that a single unit could not reach.
Where space allows, the same solution can be delivered as a pre-assembled, pre-tested skid-mounted unit, built and tested off-site before it reaches the vessel.

Whichever route suits the vessel, the objective stays the same: an installation designed around the space available, not the other way around.

Over 25 years, SRC has completed more than 5,000 projects for shipowners and operators worldwide, with teams working from Estonia, Italy, Norway, and the Netherlands.
One of our first major ship conversions came in 2014, converting the RoPax ferry MV Silja Europa into an offshore accommodation vessel, reconfiguring cabins built for 3,000 passengers into 1,450 single-person cabins across 55,000 m² of accommodation and public space. The retrofit was completed in 37 days, with over 1,300 people working 24/7 across Tallinn, Turku, and Barrow Island, and during the vessel's voyage.

Since then, that scale of work has continued, most recently with large-scale refits on vessels such as Isabella and Saga.

Whatever the location, whatever the deadline, our teams are ready to travel to it.
