I'm Mya- a party girl hot mess turned registered nurse, turned personal trainer, turned Winja. For me, health and vitality is more than a number on the scale.

I help people fall in love with movement, to establish lifelong fitness habits, to move like Winjas, and to have tons of fun doing all the above. Fitness is having the strength and energy to do all of the amazing things our bodies are made for! I move the focus of personal training away from numbers on a scale and make my clients’ health and well-being our top priority. I believe fitness should be

El Salvador V4.. or is it 5?? I don't remember. All I know is this country is full of kindness, warmth, surf, beautiful sunrises, gorgeous sunsets, all to the soundtrack of ladies slapping that tortilla together.

We were here when it was considered murder capital of the world. Now, 7 years later, it's considered one of the safest countries in the world.

Things feel the same but yet is so different. The locals are much happier, calm; we can go out at night and walk alone anywhere. Yet it still feels off the beaten track and you'll find yourself on deserted beaches all to yourselves.

17 years together. That's a whole lot of adventures, travel, laughs, fun, and oh so much love. Thank you for letting me pick you up by the neck and giving me tips on how to make it even more epic & realistic. You're the best partner for me.

Happy anniversary Mike ❤️❤️❤️

Quito photo dump. Gotta love a city that's 2850m above sea level and full of stairs, hills, and views on views!

What’s your favorite part of a taco salad?

It’s gotta be the meat for me. And the chips. Ya’ll know I added another 3 handfuls of chips after this pic was taken.

I used .ca ground beef, seasoned with spicy taco seasoning. All of .ca's beef products are ethically raised, sustainable, grass fed and grass finished, all sourced from local farms.

Toppings:
Homemade pico de gallo
Avocado or guac if you didn’t eat it all whilst preparing lunch
Black olives
Sour cream (full fat baby!)
Tortilla chips
Refried beans
Corn
Lime juice

Would you rather be strong or mobile?

Most of us start with wanting to be skinny. Then we realize being strong is way more badass. The secret sauce is when you're so mobile that you become even stronger. Oh hot damn watch out now.

So many basic exercises require a certain level of mobility that our current culture of Netflix & tech neck is not conducive to. Most people can't squat properly due to a lack of ankle, hip, and spinal mobility.

So what do you do? Learn how to move just your bodyweight before adding load. Learn to reconnect with your body. Pay attention to your body when you're moving. So many of us are just going through the motions without actually thinking about it.

Start at my YouTube channel. I've got tons of mobility tutorials, and follow along workouts for you. Link in bio.

Every day is a great day to move.

Are you starting this year on a “diet”? The definition of “diet” is what you habitually eat. So the best diet is one that serves you best, that you can enjoy for the rest of your life, not just one month.

Can you see yourself on a cayenne lemon juice diet for the rest of your life? Hells no.

So what does work? Creating a healthy eating mindset. Eating from a place of abundance. Eating mindfully. And making small incremental changes which eventually yields a habit of healthy eating.

Most people are gonna go all out this month and try to make radical changes only to end up in the same place by the second week of January. Be kind to yourself. Take small steps that guarantee your success. Here’s some examples:

1. Walk more
2. Sleep more
3. Add more veggies to each meal
4. Include protein with each meal. I choose .ca products as they're ethically, sustainably, & locally sourced from small farms in my area.

Ocho turns 1 today! He's been with us for only 10 months but he's forever changed our lives.

I never thought I could love something so much. I was filled with doubts about having a dog but now I cannot imagine our lives without him. Ocho has been the shining light in our lives, the best thing to come out of 2020.

Thank you for being you Ocho. Thank you for loving us like you do. Thank you for being the friendliest, most social, most snugglelicious dog ever.

We love you so much.

As I look at my Christmas tree, filled with wrapped gifts, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

Growing up, we didn’t have much. I remember going to the food bank and lining up for social assistance. I remember my mom taking me on a bus… I remember sitting in a waiting room and then leaving with a bunch of gifts and a Christmas hamper. If we didn't get a hamper, we would wrap empty boxes so there’d be something under the tree.

I don’t ever want to forget these memories. I am so thankful to have experienced all states of being- from lack to abundance. My mom isn’t with us anymore and I think about her a lot around this time.

I’m thinking about you too. Be grateful for all the things you do have. And if you can, give to others. We will forever be thankful.

Thank you for being here with me. Happy holidays. Xo,

Mya

Where’s your happy place?

I have many but one of my favorites is in the kitchen sipping on wine while cooking. Maybe it’s the wine. Maybe it’s the fun of creation or the chopping therapeutics, but man, I love it.

I love experimenting with different recipes and cultures. Thanks to my subscription box, every month is a surprise and meals are always fun. The fact that the meat is ethically sourced from local small farms is just icing on the cake.

This month we got black cod, striploin, and free range chicken & pork. I’m thinking lots of stews and soups. Maybe a Moroccan stew with these bomb sausages.
