Did you know that modern roads are more than just gravel, asphalt and machinery?
Our Road Construction and Maintenance Supervision Course takes you behind the scenes of how roads are designed, built and maintained. Learn about the evolution of road sealing techniques, the role of coal by-products in road construction, how crude oil derivatives are transformed into bitumen, and the engineering principles that create durable road networks.
Whether you are a supervisor, technician, contractor, engineer, or aspiring road construction professional, this course equips you with the practical knowledge and skills needed to excel in the industry.
✅ Road construction fundamentals
✅ Road maintenance techniques
✅ Construction supervision skills
✅ Interpretation of construction drawings
✅ Practical and technical road works knowledge

CONCRETE SLUMP TEST
The slump test is used to measure the workability and consistency of fresh concrete.
Zero Slump: Very stiff concrete with low water content.
True Slump: Ideal and uniform settlement; good workable mix.
Shear Slump: One side slips away, showing poor cohesion.
Collapse Slump: Concrete collapses completely due to excess water.
The slump value is measured using a slump cone and a scale after removing the cone carefully.

Symbols of Structural Plans
f’c = Concrete compressive strength
fy = Steel yield strength
σt = Allowable soil bearing capacity
f’m = Masonry compressive strength
f’b = Brick compressive strength
s/c = Design live load (superimposed load)
VS = Grade beam / foundation beam
VA = Tie beam
C1 = Column No. 1
Ø = Bar diameter
□ = Stirrup (reinforcement tie)
@ = Spacing (at every)
Rto. = Remaining portion
c/e = At each end
Astemp. = Temperature reinforcement steel
Mortero P2 = Type P2 mortar
Und. Albañil. = Brick/Masonry unit
Esc. = Drawing scale
Summary: These are common structural drawing symbols used to identify concrete strength, steel properties, soil capacity, beams, columns, reinforcement details, and construction materials on engineering plans.

Pavement Road Construction Components & Cross Section
A pavement road is built in layers to safely transfer vehicle loads to the ground. Each layer has a specific function for strength, durability, and drainage.
Layers:
1. Wearing Course – Top asphalt layer providing a smooth and skid-resistant surface.
2. Binder Course – Connects the surface layer with lower layers and distributes loads.
3. Base Course – Main structural layer carrying traffic loads.
4. Sub-Base Course – Improves drainage and provides additional support.
5. Subgrade – Compacted natural soil forming the foundation of the pavement.
Key Features:
Carriageway: Area used by vehicles.
Shoulder: Supports pavement edges and emergency stopping.
Camber: Slight slope for quick rainwater drainage.
Berm: Side area for stability and maintenance.

Auto Level vs Dumpy Level
Auto Level is a modern surveying instrument that automatically maintains a horizontal line of sight using an internal compensator. It is faster, more accurate, and easy to use for construction and leveling work.
Dumpy Level is a traditional leveling instrument that requires manual adjustment using leveling screws and a bubble tube. It is simple, durable, and economical but needs more skill and time for accurate leveling.
Some modules have nothing to do with Engineering, they're just there to strengthen your mental capacity 😩
“Study everything” has to be the worst exam scope.
