Yasuhiro Yamash*ta is the only judoka in the world to leave the sport undefeated. On account of his 217 official fights and not a single defeat.

The founder of judo, Jigoro Kano, was physically weak until the age of 15 and experienced numerous mockeries from his peers. For this reason, he decided to take up martial arts. At 22, Kano created his own form of martial arts - judo.

Judo is one of the most popular sports, second only to football. There are about 28 million judoists all over the world, 8 million of them live in Japan. The International Judo Federation includes 178 national federations.

For some time now we have been looking forward to Paris 2024. Aware of the high profile our sport has in France, it will be a memorable Olympic Games not only for the athletes, but for the spectators, staff, volunteers and the country itself, many of whom can say they have been on the tatami at one point or another.

For the beginning of the new sporting season, the French Judo Federation released a short video to promote the different steps of a judoka’s life. A video was shot in Cholet within Parc of Maulévrier, the biggest Japanese garden in Europe.

The judo technique has been the basis of many modern styles of martial arts, including aikido, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Russian sambo. By the way, one of the creators of sambo, Vasily Oshchepkov, was a second dan in judo, which was unique for a European at that time.
