And man took the vase,
fragile like his own flesh,
and filled it with weapons and
metal instead of petals.

The fragrance of flowers faded away,
replaced by the stench of war.

Thus were born the Flowers of Evil.

BLIND LOVE

Out of sight,
out of mind.
We live together but,
our eyes look elsewhere,
to this luminous object
that connects us & takes us away,
from each other.
Like Magritte’s «Amants»;
I love her, Blindly !

لا تقلقوا بشأن الطفل، فهو يرقد بسلام. جسده المكشوف لا يُسائل كرامته، بل كرامتنا نحن.

ORIENTAL-IS-ME
أُجبرت على الوقوف فوق صندوق،
أسلاك مربوطة بأصابعي.
صورة ابنتي كانت ما يبقيني واقفًا،
بأقل قدر ممكن من الارتباك.
لم أفهم إلا عندما فتحوا ذراعي:
كان هناك شيء أعظم مني يحدث هنا.
كنت أحمل صليبًا،
غير مرئي ولكنه ثقيل الحمل.
لقد صلبوني، رمزيًا!
لم يريدوا قتلي،
بل أرادوا إذلال ما أمثله—
الآخر، اللا إنسان، غير الغربي.
إذن، هذا هو؟
الإستشراق ؟

They made me stand on a box,
Wires tied to my fingers.
The image of my daughter kept me upright,
As steady as I could manage.
It was only when I spread my arms that I understood:
Something bigger than myself was unfolding here.
I was bearing a cross,
Invisible but heavy to carry.
They crucified me, symbolically!
They didn’t want to kill me,
Only to humiliate what I represented—
The Other, the non-Western.
So, Is that it?
