"UNCIVILIZED" to Prime — Black Island Girl Hurricane Maria, a Category 5 storm, struck Dominica during Lees’ time in the forest, leaving the island devastated. Emerging from the wilderness the day after the hurricane, Lees was confronted with a landscape so transformed that it was almost unrecognizable.

Our location scout photos almost ended up looking like real estate pics. Cool getting to explore the Intercontinental inside and out especially that presidential suite.

Both this project and this film required international collaboration. Sixty geotagged samples of cocoa were gathered from around Dominica and sent to the Cocoa Research Center in Trinidad. In the images above, taken by our Trinidadian DP Juliette McCawley, Dr. Lambert Motilal uses a state of the art DNA fingerprinting system to genetically identify the plants. Out of the sixty samples sent, more than fifty were completely unique from the existing six thousand profiles in their system and not to mention many of them were fine flavour! These are exciting findings for Dominica's cocoa industry.
