Beau Rive was a small but stylish hotel on the Caribbean island of Dominica. All ten guest rooms are spacious and airy with generous verandas facing the ocean.

Situated 250 feet above sea level on the East (Atlantic) coast, Beau Rive is a small, intimate hotel that nestles into a lush hillside amid three acres of tropical gardens and forest. The setting is secluded and private with dramatic views over the ever-crashing waves at Wakaman Point. Facilities include a lounge / library, bar / dining room and terrace, pool, and gardens leading down to the fores

News on Beau Rive

Since hurricane Maria in 2017 that caused the hotel's closure, I haven't been able to share very much news. However, I can now report that Beau Rive is being rented by St Nicholas University - School of Veterinary Medicine. They are carrying out repairs and when I visited today, I saw puppies, kittens, goats and even horses, since the school does wonderful work rescuing animals as well as teaching the students, many of whom are from overseas.
I will post photos when repairs are complete.

I hope all who experienced the hotel between 2003 and 2017 will be as happy as I am to know something so positive is happening - at last.

Four years ago, I wrote a post here lamenting what the election of a creature like Trump would mean for decent people in America and beyond.
Today, I am writing with great relief that the nightmare scenario of a white supremacist president has come to an end.
It should never have been possible for someone so ignorant and hateful to fill that office and his continued popularity among equally ignorant and hateful racists shows just how low America has sunk into the gutter. Joe and Kamala have their work cut out to reverse the ugliness of Trump's America but I know they will do everything they can to bring back decency, justice and equality to the nation.
Many people of all backgrounds fought hard and long against the treasonous tactics employed by republicans to suppress the vote but the greatest thanks must go to Black People in America for not giving up and for supporting the system that so rarely returns their patriotism with justice.

Hurricane Maria hit Dominica a year ago today. As difficult as it's been and as desperate as the situation is, I am far more concerned with what's happening in America under the current administration. The hatred, ignorance and racism unleashed and endorsed by Trump is far more frightening and dangerous than anything that has happened to me, here in Dominica. I can only beg decent Americans to get out and vote in November, and put an end to this tyranny.

(And please note: I never respond to Trump supporters. As George Bernard Shaw once said "I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it")
