This marks a key step in our mission to accelerate the green transition of buildings across Europe โ and beyond โ through AI-powered energy optimisation.

All good things come in threes โ Roberto Chiosa is now completing our Italian triangle of energy expertise. ๐ฎ๐นโก
๐ค After studying Energy and Nuclear Engineering in Turin and spending time abroad in Sรฃo Paulo, Roberto realised his side interest in coding was more than just a hobby. He turned his focus from turbines to tech โ combining data, statistics, and software to tackle real-world energy problems.
๐ค Since then, heโs done a bit of everything: working as a researcher on energy information systems, spending time in San Francisco at Lawrence Berkeley Lab, founding a golf-tech startup, and freelancing as a software developer on metering infrastructure.
โ๏ธ At Ento, Roberto now plays a key role between engineering and data integrations. He ensures that the data we receive from utilities flows as smoothly as his 7-iron swing. ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ
By building the infrastructure behind our analytics, he helps create the foundation that allows our customers to reduce waste and emissions.
๐ง Roberto loves solving complex problems (โitโs like crosswords, but more advanced and funโ), and says that what keeps him motivated is knowing each day brings a new challenge worth waking up for.

๐ช During our tour of the cityโs former Slaughterhouse, we learned how an old building can be repurposed successfully and turned into a cultural center and local meeting point โ while keeping sustainability in mind.
โก Old concrete buildings come with unique challenges โ like implementing an indoor climate strategy to optimise the heating and ventilation for both efficiency and comfort.

We decided to send out a bunch of cake to surprise some of our customers โ and almost everything went wrong. ๐โฌ๏ธ
๐๐ก๐ ๐ข๐๐๐:
We often ask our customers what they get for doing a great job in Energy Management:
โDid you get a promotion when you saved +100,000 Euro on fixing the heating system?โ
โDid anyone even say thank you?โ
The truth is, they often donโt get recognition.
So we came up with the idea to celebrate some of the biggest wins weโve seen in 2024 โฆ with CAKE. ๐ฐ
๐๐ ๐๐๐ฆ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฉ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฌ:
๐น Most registered energy saving projects
๐น The project that resulted in the largest savings - public organisation
๐น The project that resulted in the largest savings - private organisation
๐น Municipality with the largest total savings
๐น The action that resulted in the largest water saving
๐น The building with the largest savings
๐น Being in control of district heating penalties
๐น Best Newcomer
So all that was left to do was to order and ship some cake. Easy, right?
Wellโฆ it turned out, cake is not as easy to โshipโ as software:
๐ฅฒ With customers from Northern Jylland to Southern Zealand, no bakery could cover all of them (despite a bakery chain telling us the opposite at first).
๐ฅฒ Due to food safety regulations, we couldnโt include a message to be delivered with the cakes. So how would our customers know what the cake was for?
(Solution: have a custom link to a landing page written on the cake).
๐ฅฒ Some cakes could only be paid for in cash โ which is difficult if you are not nearby.
๐ฅฒ For some others, online orders/payment kept failing.
๐ฑ โฆ and most importantly: our customers didnโt expect any cake. So a few of the cakes actually got turned down at first.

Thanks to the persistence of the delivery guys, all winners were united with their cakes in the end.

Many of our customers at Ento use hundreds of indoor air quality sensors โ that makes identifying areas where air quality is poor a time-consuming task.
That's why we've developed a new AI-powered feature that analyses sensor data in real-time. ๐ค
It uses a 1-5 scale, based on benchmarks for CO2 and temperature levels, to highlight spaces that require attention.
By this, building managers can focus on making improvements rather than analysing data.

During the energy crisis many large building owners cut non-essential consumption drastically.
We were tasked with documenting the impact of the energy conservation measures across more than 10,000 public buildings โ and have since also run this analysis on several large commercial portfolios.
Entoโs analysis revealed โฌ11 million saved โ and a few surprises about which buildings contribute most to energy efficiency. ๐ฏ

Many buildings today have HVAC systems that are controlled by Building Management Systems (BMS) โ but the data inside these systems is often inaccessible.
Consequently, analysing the data and energy optimising ventilation and heating based on the insights is impossible โ until now. Weโve found a way to overcome this challenge.
By installing a gateway, we can unlock the full potential of a buildingโs current BMS without any large investments. This gives us real-time data and the ability to use AI-powered predictive control to optimise energy usage and occupant comfort.
We recently sent Entoโs data scientist and control engineer on a mission to Holstebro to install a gateway in an elementary school and put this solution to the test. ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ป
We now have full access to the data and control of the system โ and can help the school save energy while ensuring a comfortable environment for students and teachers.
The best part?
This solution works not only for buildings that are already online, but for any building with a BMS system.

This summer, we're thrilled to have not one, but two brilliant minds from MIT joining our team. Introducing Pragnya and Ronak, our exceptional interns who are ready to bring fresh perspectives to our projects!
โน๏ธ Ronak is a third-year Computer Science student, focusing on AI. This summer, he's developing a machine learning model to detect PV systems from electricity consumption, enhancing our energy management platform.
๐ถ Outside the tech world, Ronak is passionate about music, fitness, travel, and movies. Copenhagen has been a delight for him, with its biking culture and diverse culinary scene adding excitement to his stay.
โน๏ธ Pragnya is a fourth year student majoring in Artificial Intelligence and Decision Making, with a minor in Business Analytics. She was drawn to Ento by her interest in AI and sustainability. Pragnya is contributing to the development of energy models and working on solar PV detection alongside Ronak, guided by Benedetto Grillone, PhD.
