The FRAIL Pilot study took place in France and Germany, between April and November 2019. Elderly adults living in a senior residence, nursing homes, retirement homes, and private homes agreed to wear a smartwatch with a prototype version of the LOLA App for three weeks. In total, 132 individuals took part in the study. Participants filled out questionnaires before and after the observation period and completed a fall diary in case of a fall during the period. Usually, the assessment of frailty is often observational and self-reported. As subjective measures are prone to bias, an objective frailty screening is needed. In particular, lower physical function represents a key point in frailty assessment and is generally recorded by the use of questionnaires. The third and final part of the student exchange program brought students to imec Brussels. The week at imec was full of hands-on work with smartwatches, data collection, and ADL recognition. And we clearly had a good time!
