We are getting ready for a very special weekend! Our soloists and will bring a true historical gem to life: a grand fortepiano by Thomas Tomkison, dating back to around 1806.
Tomkison was one of London’s elite makers, ranking right alongside Broadwood and Clementi. His pianos were so stable and brilliant that they were exported across the globe, from the Spanish court to Australia. He even served as the official maker to the Prince of Wales (later King George IV).
Join us for our open dress rehearsal (with commentary) tomorrow! 🗓 Saturday, Jan 24 | 3 pm

Unfortunately, Christine Schornsheim has had to withdraw from the upcoming concert due to illness. We are very grateful to the brilliant keyboardist for stepping in at the last minute! Equally at home as a soloist, collaborator, and composer, Charles Berofsky seeks to engage audiences through a myriad of styles and genres of music. The American pianist grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and studied in Boston and Rochester, New York.
Last year, Charles released his debut album with his father, violinist Aaron Berofsky. The album features four of Mozart’s violin sonatas performed on period instruments. He has performed on harpsichord and fortepiano in Munich and Bad Krozingen in Germany, as well as in Orford, Quebec, and at Cornell University and the Oberlin Conservatory in the USA.
As a contemporary pianist, he has been a prizewinner at various piano competitions, including the Concurso Internacional de Piano de Campillos (1st prize), the New York International Piano Competition (3rd prize), and the Thousand Islands International Piano Competition (1st prize).
Prof. Christine Schornsheim (harpsichord, fortepiano) and Prof. Antti Siirala (modern piano) are among his most influential teachers at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Munich 📸 P. Smith

Frederick the Great plays the flute, surrounded by musicians, among them, his sister Princess Anna Amalie. They shared much in common: both played the flute, both composed. But Anna Amalie also created a remarkable collection of music manuscripts, much of this repertoire might have been lost without her. We’re delighted to present our next program as part of the celebrating the princess and her fascinating musical taste
