DETAIL Facade Congress 2026 >> https://www.detail.de/de_de/kann-hulle-haltung-zeigen

Poetic, technical, colorful, and climate conscious. The speakers at the DETAIL Facade Congress 2026 demonstrated how contemporary building envelopes are becoming far more than protective skins.

From the glass roof tile facade of the Museum Historische Oberamteistraße in Reutlingen to the boldly expressive solar facade of the H1 high rise in Zurich, the projects revealed diverse approaches to innovation. Other highlights included vibrant prefabricated brick facades, structural exoskeletons, integrated building services, and adaptive reuse strategies that significantly reduce material consumption.

A recurring theme throughout the congress was clear: innovation is not only about aesthetics. The facade of the future must combine beauty, performance, sustainability, and technical intelligence. As the closing discussion emphasized, the most compelling solutions emerge when complex requirements are transformed into clear and meaningful architecture.

Special Thanks to our speakers: Marlene Hübel (Boltshauser Architekten), Ingmar Menzer ( architekten), Alexander Willl (), Markus Lang (), Wolfgang Häusler ( - Fachverband für vorgehängte hinterlüftete Fassaden e.V.)
Sandor Naus (Monadnock), Florian Petersen ( Facade), Simon Banaker (Staab Architekten)

: DETAIL 6.2026: The Art of the Joint >> https://www.detail.de/de_en/detail-6-26?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=det6.2026

To mark its 65th anniversary, Detail dedicates this issue to the "art of the joint" – an homage to Bach's The Art of Fugue – as a symbol of precision, clarity, and beauty through appropriateness.
At its heart: the new Detail Construction Award. From over 300 submissions, the most intelligent construction solutions were recognised across five categories (adaptive reuse, roof, facade, supporting structures, interiors), all documented with drawings at 1:20.

Accompanying this, leading architects including Selldorf, Menges, Ghotmeh, and Mandrup share their perspectives – united by a common thread: the detail is not an end in itself, but – as with Schelling's "frozen music" – the first note of a composition that, at its best, reaches to the very depths of what it means to be human.

Documented projects by: Itten+Brechbühl SA,
Pihlmann Architects, Büro Kofink Schels, wulf architekten, DGJ Architekten, Marlene Braun & Olin Petzold (TU Berlin)

All projects are also documented in our digital database www.inspiration.detail.de

In the Portuguese town of Leiria, a renovated early 20th-century townhouse meets a clearly structured four-storey addition with a fan-shaped floor plan. Located at a busy roundabout on the edge of the historic centre, the building presents a curved street-facing façade that alternates precast concrete panels with floor-to-ceiling sliding windows.
