In 1980, Jean Nouvel and Gilbert Lézènès pushed France’s state-mandated industrialised school construction to its limits with Collège Anne Frank in Antony. Four decades later, Mars Architectes have refurbished the deteriorating building, improved its energy performance and restored key elements. A new layer of time continues the serial logic of the original project.

In Madrid’s Delicias district, Husos and Elii have transformed a former metalworks and a five-storey building for the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation. Infinito Delicias combines cultural facilities, workshops, offices, a restaurant and a flat. Around 40 per cent of the building is open to the public, bringing together sustainable food, culture and civic engagement.

At the heart of the Tyrolean village of Kössen, Pedevilla Architects have created an education centre for 500 children aged one to ten. Primary school, preschool, crèche, after-school care and sports hall are brought together under one roof as independent units connected by pathways. Inspired by local farmhouses, the building combines timber, colour and regional natural materials.

South of Venice, in the small town of Piove di Sacco, AACM has integrated a nursery school into a quiet residential neighbourhood. Inspired by the traditional Casoni Veneti, the ensemble of pyramid-shaped buildings and a large garden creates a sheltered environment for children. Red façades, a central agora and generous outdoor spaces provide room to play and learn.

Today, the new residential quarter brings together urban living, landscape and community. Five buildings by Gerner Gerner Plus and AllesWirdGut are arranged around generous green spaces, while distinctive red pergolas crown the rooftops and give the neighbourhood its identity.
