This year’s is characterized by challenging signs. Retailers’ most important time of the year is facing declining growth rates since 2015. Our annual Christmas survey ( & ) shows what can expect from the remaining shopping days until 2019.
Key insights include:
– While is heading for record growth, development of passenger frequency in Germany’s top retail locations underlines weak growth prospects for brick-and-mortar retailers
– Challenging conditions for classic inner-city retail formats: “one-stop shopping” and low prices come into focus
– Consumers’ Christmas budget is declining – consumers spend less money on Christmas presents this year
– Christmas shopping continues to shift – consumers are buying Christmas presents on and immediately before Christmas Eve
– 39.1 billion euros of consumers’ Christmas budget is still available two weeks before Christmas
