Warm welcome to all scientists from all over the world who are joining Social Simulation Conference 2019 starting today in Mainz! Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler, Minister for Social Affairs and Demographics: Looking forward to meet you tomorrow! The demografic change demands new ideas and concepts - that is why I am especially pleased that the European Social Simulation Conference is focusing particularly on this year. More than 150 simulation experts have come together here for one week, discussing environmental, economic, demographic and social perspectives under the heading “Social Simulation for Social Policy” and put Mainz at the centre of a large scientific network. The simulations and models will give us a peek at the future, helping us to estimate the consequences of today’s actions more effectively. That is an important, indeed essential, part of good political consulting. I would especially like to thank Johannes Gutenberg University and the European Social Simulation Association (ESSA), as well as everyone involved.
