What does it take to manage ageing upstream pipelines before deterioration turns into a larger operational and environmental burden?
For extensive upstream networks, effective asset stewardship depends on being able to spot vulnerable lines early, assess their urgency consistently, and move suitable projects into ex*****on without delay.
💡 Establishment of Optimized Methodology for Managing Upstream Pipelines Replacement/Remediation in Saudi Aramco 💡
📅 Wednesday, 29 April | 09:50 – 10:10
📍 Part of Session 6.3: Management
Join Abdulmalik AlHarbi, Planning Engineer at Saudi Aramco, as he shares a structured approach developed for upstream pipeline replacement and remediation across a large and diverse asset base.
Key takeaways include:
✔️ Defining objective indicators to recognise pipelines requiring attention
✔️ Considering operating context, fluid characteristics, and asset age in prioritisation
✔️ Streamlining front-end definition to support faster project development
✔️ Embedding remediation needs into broader investment planning processes
The session illustrates how a more disciplined methodology can improve timing, sharpen prioritisation, and support more sustainable lifecycle management of critical upstream infrastructure.

Training Course: Difficult to Inspect Pipelines
Inspecting challenging pipeline systems calls for a different set of tools, methods and planning considerations. As part of the 21st Pipeline Technology Conference, this one-day training provides a practical introduction to the inspection of difficult-to-inspect onshore and offshore pipelines.
The course covers key inspection scenarios, from casings and coated lines to risers, flowlines and unpiggable subsea pipelines. Participants will gain an overview of relevant inspection technologies, operational approaches for internal and external inspection, and the preparation required for effective deployment in the field. The session also includes a review of current inspection solutions available on the market.
📅 27 April 2026 | 09:00–17:00
📍 Estrel Berlin, Congress Center
Lecturer: Dr. Konrad Reber
Dr. Reber has built his career around pipeline inspection technologies, from MFL data analysis and tool design to the development of inspection systems for underwater and otherwise difficult-to-inspect structures. With experience across Pipetronix, NDT Systems & Services, TÜV Rheinland, Innospection and InnetiQs, he brings deep technical knowledge and a strong practical perspective to the classroom.
Join us at and explore inspection strategies for some of the industry’s most challenging pipeline environments!
