We celebrated a remarkable double milestone at our plant in northern Portugal: "Reaching 80 years of tire production in Lousado and 36 years as part of Continental is an extraordinary achievement, one that would not have been possible without the dedication, resilience and passion of our employees," said Pedro Carreira, plant manager of Continental Lousado.
Since opening in 1946, the Lousado site has grown into one of our key European production hubs, specializing in tires for passenger cars, light trucks and off-road vehicles. Today, the plant employs around 3,200 people and has an annual production capacity of more than 18 million tires.

Every time you drive, your tires wear down – just like an eraser on paper. But here's the thing: tire wear is the unavoidable result of friction between the tire and the road. And that same friction is what gives you the grip needed to brake and steer safely.
Check out the latest episode of The Continental Tires Garage to discover what causes tire wear and how we're developing technologies to help minimize wear while maximizing grip.

🎬 Behind the scenes of episode 3 of The Continental Tires Garage: This time, our garage turned into a forensics lab. Magnifying glasses, erasers, toy trucks and even a vacuum cleaner – what a mix, but all part of the experimental toolkit as we set out to investigate one of the most complex topics in our industry: tire wear.
Together with expert Dr. Thomas Kramer, we explore the science behind tire and road wear particles (TRWP): why wear happens, how we measure it and why friction plays such an important role in safety.
Stay tuned – the new episode airs tomorrow!

Would you know how to tap a rubber tree?
For generations, farmers in Indonesia have passed this knowledge down within their families. Professional training on sustainable tapping techniques is something new, but it's making a real difference.
In the remote Kapuas Hulu district on Borneo, we team up with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit to bring hands-on training directly to the them: in the classroom and outside on their farms.
The topics:
✅ Tapping techniques for better latex quality and healthy trees
✅ Sustainable cultivation that helps prevent deforestation
✅ Digital tools for full traceability across the supply chain
Small steps on the plantation. Big impact for the future of natural rubber.
