The full beauty of a rose field in bloom is hard to capture. Row by row, each variety shows off our hardy roses growing steadily all summer long. Here is The Poet's Wife™ in bloom a couple weeks ago, with its richly fragrant, butter-yellow blooms that thrive in both sun and partial shade.

Good morning everyone! It’s Monday already and that means it’s time for another Bloom Debut. Today we are featuring Nautica®. Large clusters of soft lilac blooms decorate this ADR award-winning rose. These lilac pink blooms age to delicate mauve and are lightly fragrant with sweet and fruity notes of pear. Nautica® produces medium, double cupped rosettes that open to reveal bright yellow stamens, a natural draw for pollinators, ideal for statement plantings, beds, containers, and pollinator gardens. A truly unique Floribunda rose where beauty, whimsy, and health grow as one.

If you look closely, you can see tiny white ties on each newly grafted plant. These ties protect the buds and keep dirt out while the graft takes to the rootstock.

It may not seem like much, but each plant is grafted by hand, a tedious job that requires care and skill.

What part of the rose production process has surprised you the most?

When the morning sun hits just right! Tree ripened peaches, along with some of our go-to peach toned varieties. About Face®️ has a striking two-toned bloom and produces large double cupped rosettes, while the beautiful blooms of Lady of Shalott™️ embody the colours and shapes of our Niagara peaches. Catherine Hershey is a strong repeat bloomer with her caramel peach ruffled petals. Tell us your favourite peach coloured bloom and why it stands out to you?

Today’s Bloom Debut is featuring Pompeji®. Dusty orange by summer, rich maroon red by autumn. Pompeji®’s pompon blooms transform with the season, their silvery white reverse and centre adding sharp contrast at every stage. This compact Kordes floribunda rose produces clusters of long-lasting small to medium, very double blooms, ideal for beds, borders, and containers. Multiple international trial awards and reliable disease resistance makes this an excellent rose. Will you be adding Pompeji® to your garden?

Take a peek inside our grafting process, or “budding” as we call it.

We specialize in Canadian-grown grafted roses, combining two plants to bring together the best qualities of each.

It’s quite the process, but we believe it’s worth it to grow strong, quality roses that we’re proud to bring to your garden.

Before the sun is fully up, the work has already begun.

Dew-covered blooms, quiet rows, and crews hard at work picking budwood. This is one of the very first steps in grafting a rose.

Have you ever wondered how a rose goes from the field to your garden? Follow along as we show you the process, one step at a time.
