This month, we’re exploring the world of retail lighting, starting with Kiki Niesten in Maastricht, where a thoughtful lighting concept enhances both the shopping experience and the presentation of high-end fashion.
The Kiki Niesten project in Maastricht is a strong example of how precise lighting design in retail spaces can connect architecture, interior, and brand presentation into a coherent whole – reduced, clear, and atmospherically powerful.
Located in Maastricht’s exclusive Stokstraat district, Kiki Niesten presents itself as a curated space for high-end fashion, where architecture, interior design, and light merge into a holistic brand environment. The lighting concept by Grease Lighting and interior designer Maurice Mentjens consistently supports this approach: open, clear, and accessible. In close collaboration, a space was created that is deliberately reduced while remaining generous and welcoming.
The Lightnet Liquid Line AX recessed linear luminaire subtly structures the open spatial layout and follows the architecture without interrupting it. The result is a calm lighting grid that provides orientation while gently shaping materials such as natural stone and textile surfaces. In this way, the Liquid Line AX becomes an integral part of the architectural design.
The Ringo Star GX pendant luminaire introduces targeted accents and creates a deliberate contrast to the linear lighting structure. In different positions, it marks key zones and sightlines, adding lightness to the spatial composition. The interplay between Liquid Line AX and Ringo Star creates a balance of structure and focus, calm and precision.
In close coordination with the interior designer, the Liquid Line and Ringo Star products were selected for their versatile forms and sizes.
More inspiring retail projects and lighting concepts will follow throughout the month, stay tuned!

Deep-plan interiors, solid walls and limited daylight shaped the brief for Susanne Philippson’s lighting concept at the Mittelbrandenburgische Sparkasse on Potsdam’s Luisenplatz.
Linear Matric luminaires organise corridors, training rooms and conference spaces with continuous lines of light. In the open breakout areas, polygonal Liquid Line luminaires introduce a softer, more informal character.
Direct and indirect lighting can be controlled independently, allowing the lighting scheme to adapt to a range of activities, from focused work and presentations to informal conversations.
“The interplay of direct and indirect lighting, linear light structures and bespoke accent forms brings the different spatial zones together within a coherent concept,” says Susanne Philippson. “The result is a bright and flexible working environment that preserves the character of the historic building despite the limited daylight.”

On the International Day for Biological Diversity, we are joining forces with Boomforest, a French organisation dedicated to urban reforestation, to advocate for more nature in cities.
In places such as Colombes near Paris, where concrete, asphalt and summer heat dominate,
new green spaces are being created to promote biodiversity and improve the urban climate.
Boomforest focuses on planting small, densely planted urban forests based on the Miyawaki method.
These green spaces create fast-growing, resilient ecosystems within very limited urban areas.
In 2026, we are proud to support Boomforest as a partner, because we believe that sustainable living environments emerge where architecture,
people and nature are more closely connected once again.
We look forward to sharing more about our joint project and the Miyawaki method very soon, as we will visit Boomforest and the planting sites in Paris and Colombes together with from Lightnet France.

After unveiling the redesigned foyer at Bastei Lübbe in Cologne, we now move upstairs to the newly reimagined executive floor.
The 160-square-metre area on the 6th floor was redesigned by Bastei Lübbe in collaboration with brandherm + krumrey interior architecture. The aim was to break down traditional office structures and facilitate new ways of working. The result is an open, vibrant working environment that creates an agency-like atmosphere and supports presence, transparency and communication.
The Ringo Star by Lightnet defines an area for quiet work as well as focused team and meeting situations, creating a clear, focused lighting atmosphere. The Liquid Line is used as a surface-mounted version in the conference room in a dynamic waveform. As in the foyer, the Basic luminaires, with their round, minimalist form, and the Midpoint spotlights – both mounted on track systems – provide calm, even lighting for the adjacent communal and corridor areas.
“For us, sustainability begins with working within existing buildings.” Andreas Jacob, brandherm + krumrey interior architecture
The design by bki consistently focuses on preserving the existing building fabric. Interventions are reduced to the bare essentials, and materials are specifically reused and supplemented. This results in a durable, resource-efficient solution with a high degree of design continuity. This approach is in line with Lightnet’s sustainability philosophy: flexible systems and durable lighting solutions that integrate seamlessly into existing architecture.

When light, architecture and new ways of working come together, spaces become places of connection and identity.
As part of a comprehensive masterplan for flexible working environments, brandherm + krumrey interior architecture transformed the foyer of the Bastei Lübbe publishing house in Cologne into a vibrant, multifunctional space for interaction, orientation and relaxation.
Across two floors and around 490 square metres, lighting solutions from Lightnet blend seamlessly into the architectural concept while supporting different usage scenarios with clarity and atmosphere.
The linear structures of Matric guide the eye naturally through the open space and emphasise the industrial character of the ceiling. In the corridors, Basic and the Midpoint LED spotlight system on track provide calm general lighting and precise orientation. In the meeting rooms, the flowing curves of Liquid Line create a soft, almost sculptural lighting effect that subtly structures the space.
“We were looking for an understated, versatile lighting solution with luminaires that do not dominate the space.” Andreas Jacob, brandherm + krumrey interior architecture
Stay tuned, in our next post, we’ll share insights into the executive board area on the 6th floor and the lighting concept developed there with further Lightnet solutions.

What if light could feel, seeking connection, forming bonds, drifting apart?
In “Patterns of Liquid Tiles”, we continue exploring the evolving language of Liquid Tiles by and
Part three introduces the behaviour:
“Duality.”
Two light and sound entities enter a continuously reconfiguring system. They drift across the canvas, searching, responding, and attempting to connect, moving within a field that is never static, but constantly reshaped.
Their choreography becomes a dialogue of proximity and distance, shaped by balance, symmetry, and interaction. What unfolds is an abstract narrative that echoes human relationships, fragile, adaptive, and in constant flux.
Driven by randomness and structured rules, the story unfolds through light, colour, motion, and sound.
Liquid Tiles is a highly flexible, programmable system capable of generating a wide range of behaviours and visual expressions. The patterns shown here are an initial glimpse of what is possible, presented at Light + Building 2026.

Rhythm of Light
Stepping into SPIE ’s new location on the EUREF Campus Düsseldorf, you don’t enter a conventional corporate headquarters. Open spaces transition into quieter retreats, while raw materials meet warm wood accents. For SPIE Germany Switzerland Austria, this location is a natural fit. A company planning, building and operating infrastructure for the energy and mobility transition finds here an environment that shares the same commitment to openness and sustainability.
Spread across around 8,250 square metres are more than 500 workstations, conference areas and an Experience Center. Floor-to-ceiling glazing draws the campus deep into the interior, while warm wood surfaces contrast with exposed concrete ceilings. Lounge areas, workspaces and conference zones flow seamlessly into one another. In between, space for exchange appears naturally.
At the centre, a generous wooden staircase connects the different levels. At times a meeting point, at others a place to pause or an informal stage for conversations between meetings. The architecture remains open and permeable without ever feeling restless.
Ringo Star pendant luminaires float beneath the exposed concrete ceilings in staggered sizes – individually above seating niches, grouped across open areas, or as a calm solitary element above the conference table. Planned by Objektlicht Piwarz, they create focal points without drawing boundaries. Their uniform, glare-free light holds the open spaces together and frames moments of concentration just as naturally as informal interaction.

For over 100 years, Weleda has stood for holistic natural cosmetics and anthroposophic medicine, guided by a strong commitment to sustainability.
With the Cradle Campus in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, Weleda is redefining logistics as part of a future-oriented, resource-conscious infrastructure. Designed by Michelgroup, the project has become a flagship for circular construction and has received multiple awards, including the polis AWARD 2024.
Built almost entirely from renewable and recycled materials, the campus focuses on low energy use, durability, and resource efficiency. The central warehouse is the largest contiguous rammed earth building in Germany, demonstrating the potential of natural materials at industrial scale.
Inside, a calm and human-centered atmosphere emerges through wood, soft tones, and clear forms. Lighting by Lightnet supports this concept throughout the building: Liquid Line structures guide the entrance areas, while Basic luminaires create a balanced, glare-free light in workspaces and circulation zones, seamlessly integrated into the architecture.
“The decision for Lightnet was made for design, functional, and sustainable reasons, and because the values of the partner align with ours,” says Daniela Trah, Head of Logistic Projects and Site Management at Weleda.
We would like to warmly thank all our cooperation partners and are very proud to be part of this inspiring and highly sustainable project.
