The baobab is one of them.

Bevor Selbstfürsorge zur Industrie wurde,
hörten Menschen Bäumen zu.

Manche Baobabs stehen seit Jahrhunderten mitten in Gemeinschaften — als Orte der Ruhe, des Austauschs, des Schattens und des Zusammenseins.

Dieser Klangbaum in Bonn wurde aus einer 250 Jahre alten Buche geschaffen, damit Menschen innehalten und lauschen.

Before self-care became an industry,
people listened to trees.

Some baobabs have stood at the center of communities for centuries — places of rest, conversation, shade and togetherness.

This sound tree in Bonn was created from a 250 year old beech tree so people could pause and listen.

Dabei sind sie seit Jahrhunderten Teil gelebter Pflegekulturen.

Selfcare wieder langsamer zu denken.

der nicht performen muss.

AMINATA GLOW was born from the desire
to think of selfcare more slowly.

that doesn’t need to perform.

Nach der Muttertagszeit bin ich gedanklich wieder stärker zu dem zurückgekehrt, womit YAYE ROOTS eigentlich begonnen hat.

Fragen über Nähe.
Gemeinschaft.
Care.
Und darüber, was Fürsorge heute bedeutet.

Yaye bedeutet Mutter auf Wolof.

Und genau daraus wächst gerade Rooted Motherhood:
ein Buchprojekt über Kultur, Berührung, Mutterschaft und Rituale der Fürsorge.

After Mother’s Day, I found myself returning more deeply to what YAYE ROOTS was always about.

Questions about touch.
Community.
Care.
And what care means today.

Yaye means mother in Wolof.

And from that, Rooted Motherhood is growing:
a book project about culture, touch, motherhood and rituals of care.

„Yaye“ in Yaye Roots bedeutet Mutter auf Wolof.
In Gambia hat die Ehrung von Müttern und Care-Arbeit kulturell einen besonderen Stellenwert.

Vielleicht vergessen wir manchmal,
dass Menschen, die so viel tragen,
geben
und für andere da sind,
auch selbst Fürsorge brauchen. ✨

Selfcare ist deshalb für uns kein Luxus.

Aminata Glow wurde zu unserer kleinen Erinnerung genau daran:
an Ruhe,
an kleine Rituale im Alltag
und an Momente nur für sich selbst.

“Yaye” in Yaye Roots means mother in Wolof.
In Gambia, motherhood and care work hold a special cultural significance.

And sometimes we forget
that the people who carry,
give
and care for others so deeply
also need care themselves. ✨

To us, self-care is therefore not a luxury.

Aminata Glow became our small reminder of exactly that:
for quiet moments,
for small pauses in everyday life
and for moments just for yourself.
