I took the chance to play at a private event at .berlin and tried out a (for me) new minimalistic live set approach, as there was no space for my modular beside the Turntables. I used pre-recorded modular loops from my Verbos System and layered them on top of each other using the Octatrack, and the TR8 delivered the rhythmic backing with some classic XOX sounds.

Thanks to everyone who filled the room and danced with me for a groovy hour. The compliments I received after the performance mean a lot to me! Kudos also to .multi for the videos :)

I’ve been selling a lot of stuff lately to fund something new and also to dive deeper into less equipment. Some modules had to go that I had not used enough over the years, but I kept some others that I could not part with yet. I reassembled them in my second case and thought a lot about what this ‘instrument’ should be able to do in contrast to my all Verbos case. After spending a few hours on the grid, I simply came to the conclusion that this case should serve as a sound design toolkit. So I decided to arrange the modules by function from left to right: Sequencing, Oscillators, Modulation, Filters, Stereo FX and (Quad) Mixing.

Why am I sharing these thoughts?
The amount of modules now available in the Eurorack format can sometimes be overwhelming. Some people (myself included) have spent hours refining “their” instrument instead of making music with the tools they have in front of them. Having a logical or patching order of modules can enhance the experience of playing a modular instrument, but this order can also distract you from trying out new patch ideas. So, if anyone reading this finds themselves rearranging modules all the time, they might find some peace of mind by simply grouping them by function, as I have done. 🙃
