Congratulations, dear Jiab, on your solo exhibition at Timothy Tyler Gallery, London. And I’m very, very glad that my shadow and soul can be part of your show. You know, life is amazing.
Reflection | Jiab Prachakul
Set in Makoto's apartment, with a silhouette of a plant in my home studio. I made this painting especially to pear with Makoto's music 'Reflection' in term to have this sound accompany the show, he released this tune around the same time I was working on Night Talk in 2019, the painting I won The BP Award with. It was a very special time as there's so many changes in our life. I moved to Lyon, Makoto and Jeonga was going through a separation with their partner. I felt so confused at the time with an identity clashed. I would thought of Makoto and his perseverance to live for his music. His dignity gave me a strength to break through with my practice at that trying time.

Today, when I woke up this morning, I had turned into a bronze because I turned 47.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I feel deeply fortunate that my life has been enriched by the friends and people around me.
I hope to see you soon at a concert or somewhere along the way.
I’d also like to share some wonderful news. I had the honour of sitting for the very first sculpture by my dear friend Jiab Prachakul, known for her work as a painter. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity.
thanks,
Makoto Sakamoto

I’d also like to thank and name people who work behind this project with me.
