When companies relocate employees with families, the timeline that matters most is rarely the visa. It is the children's timeline: Kita vouchers, school registration, welcome classes, and family benefits, each depending on a step before it.
HR teams that understand this sequence set realistic start dates and keep new hires focused during their first months. Our latest article breaks down the exact order, and where families most often lose time.
Relocating international talent with families? This is the piece to share with them.

They were completely set on Neukölln. They just signed for a lovely apartment in Schöneberg, and they could not be happier. Everything they wanted, without the crowds. The Kiez you are sure about from abroad is not wrong. It is just not the only one.

The "best neighbourhoods in Berlin" lists are lovely to read. They just can't make the decision for you. What decides it is what your choice locks in: schools, commute, and everyday life. Swipe through for the three things to weigh up.

The question I am often asked about moving to Berlin is not about visas. It is "where should we live?"
After ten years of helping internationals settle here, my honest answer is that the neighbourhood lists will not decide it for you. What decides it is what the choice locks in. Unless your children go to a private school, they will attend the local school, so the area needs schools that suit them. Your commute becomes your daily life, and Berlin runs on a different scale than many cities: around 30 minutes is the comfortable norm here, even if 60 felt normal back home.
And the part that surprises people most: you do not have to get this right before you land. Your temporary months in Berlin are a test drive, not a waiting room.

It's Friday afternoon in Berlin, and one word is floating through every office in the city: Feierabend. 🌇
Literally, it's "celebration evening". The word goes back centuries, to the old German vīreābent, the evening before a feast day. Over time it came to mean the end of any working day. Which tells you something lovely about how Germans think about it: every evening carries a little of that holiday feeling.
There's no real English equivalent. It's not just "after work". It's the moment the day's work is officially done and the evening belongs to you.
If you're new to Germany, this might be the loveliest cultural habit to borrow. Close the laptop. Close the tabs. Even the relocation to-do list can wait until Monday. The forms will still be there, and so will we. 💙
Schönen Feierabend, Berlin. What's your plan for this evening?

Moving to Berlin with kids this summer? 🌟
We work with a lot of families in the middle of a big relocation, and one question that comes up again and again is: what about the children?
Our friends at Linden Global Learning & Support Services have their Summer Booster programs running right now, June through August, online and in person in Berlin. They're designed specifically for children and teens, with vacation-friendly scheduling so they fit around your move.
Programs include academic support (great for IB and IGCSE students), executive function and focus coaching for ages 7 to 12, and teen coaching for those who just need a reset before a new school year in a new country.
If you have a child who could use some extra support this summer, it's worth a look.

This week she wrote about the quiet stretch that settles in a few months after you arrive. The one nobody really warns you about.
