Friends, I'm reaching out to humbly ask for some help during a very difficult time.

Short story: I was hospitalized for progressive, severe health issues, deemed rare and complex enough that a multidisciplinary team at UCLA has been assembled to figure out what's going on. I need help surviving financially while they work me up physically. It's my birthday this Sunday, and keeping my rent and bills paid would be the greatest gift.

Hey Darlings, I'm writing to ask for some help. I've been going through some rough medical problems this past year, plus a housing nightmare, and since January my income has slowed considerably. I finally found a place to live, am awaiting a referral to a research hospital to hopefully sort out this medical crisis, and am working on longer term work solutions, but I need to cover this month's rent and bills. Would appreciate any help - even sharing this link helps more than you know!

For TDOV I'm sharing P1SS SLVT, a project that seeks to embody the spectre of the "hot trans toilet demon" of the (lawmaking) cis imagination.

Like many trans people, I'm marginally employed in/as various modes of "content" while being legislated out of existence both irl and inline, coping with the news that some states have plans to put trans people in prison for life for using the "wrong" public toilets, medical care is being curtailed, physical violence is ever present, and we are being run off the internet by algorithm changes and moderation policies on "appropriate" content that skews largely towards calling all LGBT content "obscene." All of this has personally affected me and the people I love immensely in ways that make it measurably more difficult to live in the world.

I wanted to create a space to embrace the monstrous trans energy that seems to be at the root of all this - and it turns out the demon is actually quite fun and s3xy 😈🔥🖤

I'm working on a new project that has been met with such tender excitement by every trans person I've shown it to and such pearl clutching revulsion and avoidance by most cisgender people. A bad business plan at a time when I'm truly in need of a good business plan, but artistically and intellectually it makes me feel I'm on the right track.

If you don't get the reasons a trans person would make content like this, please consider: we take fists to the face for having to p*e in public and are pushed into exploitative labor. There are government-enacted and enabled public terror campaigns against us. We are labeled as s*xual predators by a world that has reduced us to a p**n category. Having some fun while trying to survive might actually help morale.

This is all very real, it's not a dilettante project, and trans poverty and discrimination isn't a thought experiment. I am a real trans person making real work about real life. If you're comfortable pretending this stuff isn't happening but uncomfortable with me taking ownership of it and bringing it to the fore, maybe you have some things to unpack there...

If I told you my most intellectual and politically motivated project in years was about p*ss fetishism…. Would you hear me out?

A few things I know:

Trans people are at great threat from so many angles right now. One of the battlegrounds: public toilets. I’ve personally been attacked, confronted and menaced while trying to carry out basic bodily functions, and I don’t know a single trans person who doesn’t have at least a hint of apprehension or some negative experience. The state of things is so bad that many trans people develop long-term urinary disorders from holding it in to keep themselves safe. The choice is often one form of damage vs another.

It’s kind of a DARVO mind**** - trans people are violated, harassed, banned from public space because we are made out to be overs*xed monsters, lurking around every stall door and under every urinal like we’re all the famous Berghain p*e guy (shoutout to him tbh).

Meanwhile, trans people are more likely to be victims of s*xual and physical violence than perpetrators. And being locked out of society and over-s*xualized means we are more likely to have participated in some form of survival s*x work, which, while as respectable as any form of gainful employment, carries special risks and stigmas that put us more in danger.

And then!! Come the jokes about how we’d all be doing just fine if we started a fansite…

Enter P1SS SLVT. A new performance project embodying the specter of the “hot trans toilet demon” - that invention of the popular cis imagination used to enact laws that destroy the lives of trans people in the name of “public decency.”

P1SS SLVT is a hyper-pop protest anthem, a cry for help, and a reclaiming of the right to public space - plus a s*x positive bop. There’s more content in the works, ironically delayed by some discrimination I’ve been facing - but we press on. Keep your eyes and mouths open for what’s coming ;)

I just realized - this month is the ten year anniversary of A Stranger Sound. My first large-scale show and a chronicle of a dark, underworld trans coming-of-age journey described by a close collaborator as "relatable... like having a panic attack in a dirty nightclub bathroom."

A lot has changed since I plucked this EP from dancefloor wreckage and sequined Berlin dreck, but I often think of just how relevant it still is to me, and how important it is to do the work to dis-/un-cover ourselves, in the ways we can, through absent mirrors and cracked community and the sheer driving pulse of, well... everything.

Working on a new performance concept that can broadly be described as "hot trans toilet demon"

A moment of sweetness amidst the current chaos: just received a copy of Outside The Binary, a collection of portraits with accompanying model statements shot by Linda Bournane Engelberth - I was fortunate to be part of the project alongside friends, colleagues and strangers from all around the world. The book does what it says on the cover, and serves as a document and dialogue of variant and gender expansive experiences. You can get your own copy online or find out more about Linda's work (she's got some cool projects!).
