“We can’t test our idea, we don’t have time or budget allocated for it”
- this is what they tell me when I ask them to show EVIDENCE for their BIG claims in their business plan
Building a product without testing the idea is like trying to win on a slot machine in Las Vegas. 😂💸
The LEAST you can do is do a simple KEYWORD RESEARCH. It can help you (somewhat) TEST your idea with $0 and in less than 1 week.
Here are 5 TOOLS that I use all the time:
#1 Google Trends: Find out what kind of things are searched on google around your idea and what is trending
#2 Google Keyword Planner: Find out how your customers explain their problem on google and what kind of solutions are they looking for
#3 Reddit and Quora: Find out if they are discussing the problem with other users? What kind of solutions are suggested by other users?
#4 Social Networks: Create a post in the right group, posting the problem and seeking help..see what kind of answers you get?
#4 Amazon: Read the reviews - specially the negative ones and find out the gaps in the market
Keep in mind! This research is only the starting point.
I usually pair the findings with other experiments that go deeper into learning how customers behave in their natural environment.

We as humans have a strong tendency to fall in love with our own ideas.
Restricting the period of time between idea creation and the first contact with reality helps us NOT to fall in love with our own ideas.
This ultimately downplays some of the obvious biases we normally have when we really want something to be true. 🙌
