Alexey Chernorot aka `Compass Vrubell' (also `DJ RX-5', `Egofriend') is better known as the most legendary techno DJs of Russia, who was at the forefront of the post-perestroika club scene. He was resident of the legendary Ptyuch and L.S.Dance clubs in Moscow, toured across the former USSR space and named DJ of the year by many magazines. His music production was less known, but in 1996 he met Roman Belavkin (aka Solar X) on a tour in Siberia who just launched his Art-Tek records and offered Alexey to release his debut album. The tracks selected for the album were recorded by Alexey during 1996-1997 in his home studio using simple equipment, which included Yamaha RX-5 and Roland MC-303 Groovebox. The lack of studio equipment was compensated by unique musical and sound ideas, masterful mixing and timing that is the skill of a genius DJ that Compass Vrubell is. The album was named after the lake `Manzherok' in Altai region (shown on the photo on the album's cover), which Alexey visited in 1997 and emphasized his Siberian roots. The album was released in 1997 on MC cassette tape and became one of the first MC only releases of Art-Tek records. This is a digital release of the album that has been restored from original masters, and for many it is the first opportunity to hear this debut album by Compass Vrubell. Its futuristic sound is full of power and energy that is characteristic of all Alexey's music, and its sound's 1997 origin will be a pleasant surprise for all electronic music lovers in 2025.

Manzherok `Manzherok' was 1997 debut album of the legendary DJ Alexey Chernorot (aka Compass Vrubell). It was one of the first MC only releases of Art-Tek records. Thank you to all who listened to "Outre X Mer" in 2024. Here is the original 1993 version of the "Illuminating Surface" track restored from archives and remastered in 2024. These were my first experiments with Gravis Ultrasound card, and the melody was composed sometimes in 1985-1988. Hope you enjoy and stay tuned!
