Athens Campaign 2026 - DAY 3 🌞

We had such a great third day of our campaign, also thanks to the lovely stay 💙🧡

We started by picking up and delivering office equipment for the MSI clinic in the Victoria Community Center to round up the list of supplies.
Further we continued to get some shelves and a coffee table for glocal roots.

After that we had a meeting with our new partner organization and had the chance to see their beautiful space.

Saffron kitchen is supporting displaced people in building healthy, autonomous lives, using food as a toolkit. They are distributing food in their center and neighborhood.

After having a super tasty lunch we went to the shop where saffron kitchen is getting their containers to package the food. We are happy that we can support with 10 000 boxes as well as 70l of olive oil that is going to be delivered the next days.

We finished the day by buying plants for glocal roots. 🌱

Thank you for this day and the great collaboration. ✨

Mazi Housing ✨

Mazí Housing supports young men seeking refuge in Greece to navigate the transition to adulthood.
Our mission is to create safety and maximise choices open to people seeking refuge. We do this through safe, stable housing; by connecting residents to legal, healthcare, education and employment services; and by building a supportive community around them.

Three pillars hold this together: safety, agency, and belonging. Residents share apartments where they co-create house agreements and shape daily life together. Each works one-to-one with a caseworker to set goals, navigate challenges, and plan ahead: supporting rather than directing. Every part of the programme returns to one question: “Am I better able to do this myself after Mazí?”

Since 2020, we have supported more than 130 young men to find stability and take their next steps. In 2025, we housed 30 residents across three apartments and a community centre, creating 10,950 nights of safe housing. We held 180 one-to-one casework meetings, accompanied residents to 66 hospital appointments, supported six residents to secure legal status, and saw 25 new jobs started. Twelve residents completed the programme and moved on.

It was also a year of growth. We could keep our third apartment open and delivered Recipes for Life, a weekly cooking and nutrition programme from which two residents have since begun training to become chefs.

At €16 per resident per day, our model costs less than half of the state’s €40-a-day detention alternative, and offers something it never could: a foundation to build a normal life on.

Partnerships like ours with Elpida make this possible. Thank you for standing with us this year.

Two more weeks to go until this years Athens Campagne. 💙🧡

Saffron Kitchen Project ✨

At Saffron Kitchen Project, our mission is to support displaced and vulnerable people in building healthy, autonomous lives, using food as a toolkit. We are a community that leverages food so people can eat, cook, learn and, most importantly, feel that they belong.

Founded in 2021, we address challenges faced by the refugee community and vulnerable people, including lack of food, job opportunities and inadequate social inclusion. Our free nutritious meals are distributed across the centre of Athens, as well as in our local neighbourhood of Kypseli, in partnership with other organisations on the ground.

Through vocational and hospitality training programmes in collaboration with IEK Delta, we create a path to employment, providing necessary skills and accredited, nationally recognised certification.

Every year on June 20 we mark World Refugee Day — and this year we also mark 75 years of the 1951 Refugee Convention. The Refugee Convention was a promise: that people forced from their homes have inalienable rights — to education, work, housing, and access to legal assistance. In 2026 those fundamental promises have little real value.

At the EU’s external borders, people seeking safety are being pushed back illegally, locked into prison‑like camps, and denied legal and medical help. On June 12 the GEAS reform came into force — a change that curtails the individual right to asylum and tears out a pillar of the Refugee Convention. Asylum seekers from countries with recognition rates under 20% can now be held in detention‑style conditions. That currently affects people from Egypt, the DRC and Iraq.

People from Egypt — one of the largest groups of new arrivals on Crete — have faced these consequences since last year, when the Greek government suspended all asylum procedures for people from North Africa — another breach of the Refugee Convention.

When nation states and blocs like the EU trample the Convention’s core principles, civil society must stand together against the step‑by‑step dehumanization of people on the move.

For an unquestionable right to asylum! For safe routes! Against walls, borders and deportation prisons!
