‼️RUFFED LEMURS AND RING-TAILED LEMURS NOW SHARE PRAGUE ZOO'S LEMUR ISLAND 🖤🤍🩶
A new environment, unfamiliar scents and sounds—and, above all, unknown neighbours. White-belted ruffed lemurs, which are among the largest and most vocal of all lemurs, settled into their new home surprisingly quickly. Visitors to Prague Zoo previously saw them opposite the giant tortoises; today they share the walk-through exhibit by the main entrance with ring-railed lemurs. Both Malagasy primates move freely around the island among visitors and can be observed at close range.

Four more Przewalski’s horses settle into Kazakhstan as this year’s transport sets a record! 🥳
Togs and Shara, originally from the UK’s Marwell Zoo, Bela, born in Nuremberg, and Theresa from the partner institution Tierpark Berlin, were released into acclimatisation enclosures at the Alibi reintroduction centre yesterday at ten minutes past seven in the evening.
Like the group of four stallions flown from Prague-Kbely a few days ago, they too travelled aboard a Czech Air Force CASA military aircraft. A total of eight endangered Przewalski’s horses have thus been transported this year to the Altyn Dala reserve in central Kazakhstan. This marks the highest number moved since operations in Kazakhstan began in 2024. At the same time, Prague Zoo has set a new record for the number of individuals transported from Europe to Central Asia over the entire fifteen-year history of the Return of the Wild Horses project.

Curious and playful kits with unmistakable ears—three young bat-eared foxes—have begun venturing out of their natal den at Prague Zoo. This follows a long hiatus in breeding, as it was difficult to find a suitable partner for the zoo’s genetically valuable male, intended as the founder of a new European breeding line. The kits of these insectivorous canids were born at the end of April and can now be observed daily in the Africa up Close house.

Przewalski’s horses transported from Prague Zoo have safely arrived in Kazakhstan after a 15-hour flight. A subsequent 11-hour overland journey on the beds of lorries carried them from Kostanay to the Altyn Dala State Nature Reserve (the Golden Steppe). There, shortly before 8 pm, they were released into an acclimatisation enclosure of the Alibi reintroduction centre, managed by the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK), where they will spend approximately one year. On Friday, four mares will join the transported stallions; the Czech Air Force aircraft is currently returning to Tierpark Berlin to collect them.

Thanks to Prague Zoo and the Czech Air Force, four Przewalski’s horses departed for Kazakhstan yesterday, all of them stallions—a first in the history of these transports. The world’s last remaining species of wild horse landed in Kostanay aboard a CASA aircraft, from where a ground convoy continues to the Golden Steppe. The plane will then return to collect four mares from Berlin. In total, eight Przewalski’s horses are due to return to the land of their ancestors this year.

🐒🕷️ SPIDER MONKEY BORN AT PRAGUE ZOO❗️
Prague Zoo has welcomed a baby Mexican spider monkey. The tiny primate is doing well, suckling its mother’s milk and clinging tightly to her abdomen. It can be seen on the Monkey Islands in the zoo’s lower grounds. This Mexican subspecies is threatened with extinction, making it one of the rarest mammals kept at Prague Zoo. It can be found in only three zoos in Europe. In the 21 years since Prague Zoo began keeping them, the monkeys have bred successfully eight times. This year’s addition is the first since 2022.

Outside and inside: Prague Zoo welcomes newborns😍
Frolicking siblings, joeys jumping out of pouches and young animals simply discovering the world: Prague Zoo has welcomed its spring newborns, and its pavilions and enclosures are full of life. This year, the Gobi exhibit has reported its first Przewalski’s horse foal, while Darwin Crater first welcomed a wombat joey and now a long-nosed potoroo—a small feeding specialist—has peeked out from its mother’s pouch. The meerkats are caring for their new baby at the African House, while in the zoo’s upper grounds young takins and camels can also be seen.

PRAGUE ZOO’S YOUNG WOMBAT IS A FEMALE❗️
The little common wombat at Prague Zoo is a female, like her older sister. Last week, the zoo officially presented the second joey of these popular marsupials to the public. She is the second ‘Czech’ wombat to be born in the Darwin Crater exhibit. Actor and presenter Ondřej Sokol, a long-time supporter and patron of Prague’s wombats, was also present. He chose the name Barunga for the joey.

‼️ NEW GIRAFFE SETTLING IN AT PRAGUE ZOO 🦒
A new Nubian giraffe has arrived at Prague Zoo. The three-year-old female arrived in March, having travelled from Leipzig Zoo in Germany. She was born there and was the first calf of Matyáš, a male from Prague. In Leipzig, they named her Niara, which means “with utmost purpose” in Swahili. She may well fulfil this at Prague Zoo, as she will be one of the key breeding prospects for the zoo’s herd in the future. Thanks to the warmer weather, all the giraffes can often be seen in the large enclosure in the zoo’s upper grounds.

🐧 A Humboldt penguin came into the world at Prague Zoo. Its parents are an experienced couple consisting of a male, Kulička, and a female, Sněhurkou. The chick hatched on December 14th and is being reared naturally. Nevertheless, the keepers check the chick daily, primarily to keep track of its weight gain.
