PREPREG IS NOT JUST CARBON

“Carbon brace” sounds high-tech.
But carbon fiber alone means almost nothing.

What really defines performance is the composite system:
fiber + resin + orientation + curing control.

And this is where prepreg is fundamentally different.

# # # 1. Resin system — not the same chemistry

In classic dry/wet layup carbon, resin is mixed and applied manually.
These resins are designed to cure at room temperature and be easy to work with — not to handle extreme cyclic loads.

Because of that they typically have:
• lower fatigue resistance
• lower temperature stability
• weaker fiber bonding

Prepreg uses a different resin family — engineered for controlled heat curing under pressure.

Result:
Higher mechanical stability and predictable stiffness over time.

Hand lamination depends on the technician:

Rotational forcesYour foot sticks in the ground, the bike keeps moving, the body rotates.This creates torque that foam and plastic cannot absorb — it has to be mechanically limited.

Lateral stabilityOff-axis landings, front wheel washouts, sudden line corrections.The hit may be small, but the sideways displacement is critical.Soft protection doesn’t control knee geometry.
