DONATO DOZZY - AFTERHOUSE SERIES VOLUME 2
Italian producer Dozzy seems to have hit a disticntly purple patch at the moment and can certainly do no wrong in the eyes of his growing array of supporters. It's not hard to see why he's so loved - his approach is unconventional (especially in the usually ultra-functional world of techno) but his productions manage to find new ways to carve a funkiness and heady momentum out of sound. Not to mention the fact they always have atmosphere by the lorryload, and this new EP for Netherlands label Afterhouse is no exception. Jump on this one while you get the chance.

DARK ARTS & MINIMAL COMPACT - SONGS OF EARTH AND SKY / JOLA DOOL / LOW FLIGHT / THE CONFERENCE OF SNAKES (.tv)
Pairing works by Stephanie Payne’s obscure project, Dark Arts with Malka Spiegel's legendary Minimal Compact, Stroom make an apt comparison between the acts’ shared grasp of mood and space on ‘Songs of Earth’.
Dark Arts’ works come from her 1995 album ’Something Once Whispered To Cava’, as released by School For Berberian Music. ’Songs of Earth and Sky’ locks in a slow clash of glinting metallic percussion and flutes that conjure a sense of sleepwalking into battle, while ‘Jola Dool’ feels to echo Muslimgauze’s more etheric, less noisy, work of the same era with its drifting choral drones and lilting rhythmelodic cadence.
Minimal Compact’s pair from 1987’s ‘Lowlands Flight’ album are very much of a skool shared by the likes of The Cocteau Twins, Pump and Vazz during that era; toiling cold, reverberating drum machines and gut-revving bassline with keening bittersweet dissonance in the masterful ‘Low Flight’, and slinking off down the darkest vein of Robin Guthrie-like guitar enquiry in the icy negative ecstasy of ‘The Conference of Snakes’.

THE ARMS OF SOMEONE NEW - SUSAN SLEEPWALKING ()
Imagine it's 1985 again, when listening to progressive alternative music meant hearing bands like New Order, OMD and Depeche Mode. Moody synth-pop groups dominated the imports from Europe, and in the American midwest a relatively unknown band was traversing the same territory.
Quietly following their own course of musical exploration, The Arms Of Someone New created music that was mellowly melodic, somewhere between pop/rock and New Romantic. Equipped with simple synths, drum machines, guitars and vocals, The Arms Of Someone New provided an American take on what we now fondly look back on as the classic “eighties” sound - a sound undergoing renewed interest and resurgence.

ROBERTO AUSER - SECOND SUN ()
As an opening act for its LP series, Dalmata Daniel presents the new album by Dutch West Coast mid-veteran Roberto Auser.
Auser has been into cinematic (or b-videomatic) electro for more than a decade now, with releases on Viewlexx, Pinkman, Gooiland Electro/Enfant Terrible and more, ranging from atmospheric and hypnotic to tight and grim, but always loaded with a vision of a storyteller. In a Dutch way, for sure. Though Second Sun is, again, an audiovisual trip, that's not the primary concept here – it's probably the purest album-like experience of Robert Auser so far, presenting most of his characteristics and sounds, and also new elements, still, all are coherent and organic parts of Auser's projective language of electronics.

CREDIT 00 & WOLF MÜLLER - FUNK THE SYSTEM ( & )
Funk The System! The recipe is simple: Dig deep, listen to your heart, record everything you got on a dusty old desktop computer, leave it to simmer for the time of a pandemic, and if it’s still fresh, serve it up on the finest plate of black wax!
This collaboration started in Düsseldorf in the year 2018. Locked up for a week in the Flanger Studios, Wolf Müller and Credit 00 recorded everything: from the jaw harp to smartphone apps, chopping up GDR Jazz breaks and squeezing the Funk out of every synthesizer and drum machine at hand.

STEVE SUMMERS - GENERATION LOSS ()
Steve Summers delivers his long anticipated debut double lp for L.I.E.S. Stepping up with 13 tracks, Summers goes across the board exploring all ends of the long lineage of Chicago House music. As a member of Mutant Beat Dance with Traxx and Beau Wanzer or under his Rhythm Based Lovers alias Summers has always managed to tread the line between classic Chicago styles and modern psychedelic Jakbeat floor beaters.
On the aptly titled "Generation Loss" we get the the full spectrum; from the old school 80s acid of "Who Knows" to the long form lysergic blackhole of "Boxed In" or the dx funk of "Unknown Origin" Summers cements his signature style which he has refined over years throughout this LP.
